3rd Annual Fly In to Gastons in Arkansas 3M0 and BPK

We will be heading out in an hour or two. Looks like a headwind the whole way, but it should beat that 14-hour drive of last year. Unless we get groundspeeds of 26-30 knots again, like we had for half an hour enroute to the Tullahoma Beech Day event....

26 to 30 knot ground speed? Wow!

I have a vehicle reserved at BPK, since I am going there this evening and then making the short hop to Gastons tomorrow. If you need a ride someplace that the Gaston's van can't take you, then call my cellphone

I should be in the neighborhood around 5pm.

Thanks

Jay, in case you see this- we have dinner reservations in the Gaston's restaurant at 7PM.

530 NM 34A to 3M0. 4.2 Hobbs, 4 hours air time, with some headwind on the first half of the trip. Still averaged 132 knots on 9 GPH, non-stop. Sunny Beech is a good boy. Today's flight sure beat last year's 14-hour drive.

Just wrapped up dinner for the first day at Gaston's. Great turnout already! Five planes on the line, eleven people at dinner, and more arriving in the morning!

Overcast skys may have turned back a couple of planes that was thinking about attending Gastons. Quick count indicates that we had 8 aircraft for Saturday. In addition we had a fellow with a Cherokee 140 stop by to learn more about our Type.

Temperatures were much lower than last year, but the winds were much calmer.

When I have time to double check my names and planes, I'll post back here.

Several planes are planning a Sunday departure, so even though I'm back home, Gaston's is still going on. Everyone have a safe trip back home. I enjoyed the chance to visit with everyone one more time before the end of the year.

Thanks
Jay

Hello to everyone that attended the Gaston's event. Judy and I really enjoyed meeting everyone. We left this morning in the rain and on the wet sod and flew over to Ozark Regional @ Mountain Home, filled the tanks, and filed IFR to Olive Branch. Passed through some pretty heavy rain and moderate turbulence on the way to Memphis. When we arrived in Olive Branch the sun was shining so we picked up the kids flew VFR home to GTR. It turned out to be a gorgeous day. My wife Judy really enjoyed the trip and fly-in except for the little bit of weather on the way home. Thanks to everyone that put on the event. We appreciate all that the BAC does.

As it became more apparent that the rainy weather and runway condition would be getting worse rather than better on Monday, and perhaps not improving until Wednesday, the Rellihans loaded Sunny Beech with the baggage, self-loading and otherwise, and punched out VFR to Walnut Ridge for fuel. IFR out of Walnut Ridge, and non-stop from there home to Laurens. Canceled IFR after we cleared the Smokies.

Great Fly-In, weather notwithstanding! Two non-Beech fliers had seen the Fly-In listed in AOPA, and flew in on Saturday just to check us out!

But I sure do have a mess to clean off of Sunny B and his wheelwells....

Made it home safe. Got my new instrument ticket not just wet but soaking wet. Still a good trip and had a great time. Looking forward to BAC to Gaston's IV next year. Bill Manhein got a taste of real IMC and was a great help with the charts and the radios.

Looked like you got it off the ground just fine, Cloyd. Funny how someone else can reassure Paula better than I can.... :)

Mike, that's another reason that I decided to go into Ozark Regional (KBPK) instead of coming into Gaston's.

Becky and I enjoyed the chance to get to see everyone again (and to FINALLY meet the "self loading baggage").

See you next time

Many thanks again to everyone that came out to Gastons. Thanks to Mike and Paula for Spending not 1 of their anniversaries, but now 2 of them with BAC at Gastons. To the unsuspecting eye, it looked like the only thing that kept Dean from getting a complete overhaul was the threat of sprinkles on Saturday. I think the official count was 8 BAC aircraft, 1 cherokee, and one high wing aero commander. so who knows, perhaps some future members out for this event.

From start to finish... There were 7 aircraft that arrived on Friday, and 3 more arriving on Saturday (counting our visitors). 5 Saturday Departures, and 4 aircraft stayed over for departures on Sunday.

Keep an eye out for updated PT standings and photos to the photo gallary.
