National Challenge Fly-In

BACers,
I just posted a National Challenge on the Events Calendar. In a nutshell I was asked to show my plane and furnish a ride to a young man interested in Aviation. I thought this was such a good idea I wanted to Challenge all BAC members to do the same. I know it is last minute but, I am trying to sweeten the pot by offering a free set of used sunshades to the member who displays his plane to the most newbies (no age limit ) or provides rides to the largest number of eager learners. The time to show is this Thursday through Sunday. Just post how many newbies you influenced and I'll send the winner the shades. This is on the honor system. No one will check up on the results. Let's just do some good and have some fun.

Great Fun. I have had the pleasure of having a few guests in my plane that had never previously flown in any type of aircraft. In these cases I let them fly the take off. I think it is cool to be able to say that on very first flight they took, they actually performed the take off.

wait a minute, you have to fly a beech aircraft........ Sitting in a project sundowner on the ground does not constitute a flight.

Those visors wont do you any good in a Grumman:).

Guys these are sun shades. You put them in your windows when you park to keep the heat out. Sorry if I didn't describe the prize accurately.

https://vbl.beechaeroclub.org/gallery/data/1017/medium/IMG_1154.JPG Here's a young man that I used to take flying as a teenager. He grew up and went into the military and became a helicopter pilot. I got a call from him out of the blue this summer and he asked if I could meet him at the airport at 5:30 after work! He's now the rotary wing commander at Patuxent Naval Air Station and needed to get some flying time in so he thought he would come see me to say thanks!

All you guys complaining about your rain or snow "SEND IT MY WAY ! " man it is beautiful but dry. We need rain.

Today I flew a Guy new to Aviation around the area. He is on track to take lessons. His goal is to become an AG pilot. I had a good time watching him fly the plane. It was a fun event.

My passenger was Austin Evers, 19. He's attending a local Comm College and will transfer to Auburn U in the fall. After our flight he contacted an instructor and is awaiting a schedule slot. His goal: PP before September. He actually flew pretty good for a first timer, wants to head to the airlines after graduation. Great kid.

I take a few young people with me when I attend the Air and Space museum event each year. So far a few pilots and one Aerospace engineer from that. We really do affect lives when we introduce people to aviation. I have done a lot of Young eagle Flights and some Women can Fly events but never know what those flights started.
