Fly-in to Fairbanks Alaska

Please tell us one of you guys has a G0-Pro running on this trip. The rest of us mortals would love to watch some of that.

May God watch over you boys.

Scott,

I don't always fly a plane, but when I do, I prefer a Sundowner.

Stay flying, my friends.....

Nelson

No GoPro on this trip, but there will be a few more pix. There is already a huge amount added to the short term memory, not all of which can be admitted to.

Back in Whithorse, Canada, tonight and headed SE.

I am afraid we upset the gods somewhere back there and now we are paying for it.
Yes, it was sorta like a flag capture, but the bullshit around the camp stove was priceless!

I guess you had to be there to appreciate it in all its glory, but what the heck, we were!

We were 7 days in Fairbanks, of which about half the time it rained. Ruined the fishing opportunity. However, I heard that they were letting you keep Kings on the Kenai. We did get to fly up above the Arctic Circle at Bettles and then on to Coldfoot for lunch at the truck stop.

We had steady rain on Monday night, Tuesday and Wednesday.

Weather improved and we decided to leave on Thursday morning. Broke ground about 11:30 am and got into Whitehorse at 4:20 pm. Rain again last night and not really nice this morning, so we decided to stay another night and toast the BAC Founding Fathers and BAC's 10th anniversary.

I didn't realize you were 7 days in Fairbanks, we really enjoyed Anchorage. I'll post some aerial photos of the Knik glacier if the chief photographer will ever approve them for show...

Cloyd,
We left Whitehorse, YT, before lunch yesterday and flew to Watson Lake, Peace River, Fairview and then Vermilion, AB. Where we again spent the night at Johns' friends house. This morning we left for Saskatoon, cleared customs at Peace Garden and stopped at Fargo, ND, for the night.
The tailwind gods have been smiling for two days now and we have been averaging better than 135 knots GS in the Sundowner. I know that wont last, but there are bragging points to be had while it is good.
Maybe Hartland, WI tomorrow?

Life just keeps gettin' better!

The Alaska trip is over for everyone, except me. I covered a fair distance with additional fly-ins at the "Flap Adjustment Fly-in" and the Portsmouth "Luncheon Fly-in". Weather was a significant factor with 3 nights in Whitehorse and 3 extremely comfortable nights at Dan Kirby's waiting for the Midwest Express to pass through. Dan's generosity is only exceeded by his graciousness.

Today I am in STL looking at the weather picture Southwest of here. According to the current weather deck, I'll probably not get to Dallas until Friday or Saturday and Phoenix probably Sunday. Not a real imposition as I'm saying with my family and seeing friends in my home town. But, after a month away from home, I'm anxious to get there. However, I'll wait until the flying is easy.

If you note, I've added a few more States to my map where "Sandy Beech" has touched down. Nine more in all. I also logged touch downs in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Yukon Territories. I regret I was unable to get Kentucky on the map as I over flew it three times without landing. I expect to include Idaho before the end of this year. Before my flying days are over and from this world I pass, ......... I hope to add the rest of the States.

Marty,

Didn't you fly your plane to Kitty Hawk?

BTW I count overflights, not just touchdowns.

Any other photos of your trip that are upload-worthy?

I'll post a few taken East of Palmer, which is East of Wasilla (where you can presumably see Russia from your house)...

I am back at DFW where, shortly, I will board AA for LAX, then a Qantas A380 for Melbourne, Australia. About 30 hours to go.

I have had an amazing trip, and met up with a bunch of BAC members in lots of states.

There are a more than a few that I would like to say a special thankyou to;

Bob & Jennifer Schmidt
Marty Vanover
Dan & Anne Kirby (and the rest of the Kirby clan)
Rap & Charlotte McBurney
Bill Sciscoe
Scott Lister

All of these fine people (and many others) went way above and beyond and showed the true spirit of this Club. So, to all involved, I say THANKYOU.

See you in Oz!

Marty, that's a lot of seat time! Good for you! Weather looks iffy thru Oklahoma. I'm suppose to fly to Tulsa Friday. If needed KMLC airport has hotels and dinning within walking distance. Good luck.

Nope, I flew commercial and got a ride to Kitty Hawk.

So, if you count fly-overs, why not count "I intend to fly there" also? Same difference to me. Now your map doesn't mean much to anyone.... except you.

Not really DATA Hound. If I've flown over it I've been there in my plane.
