Sun-n-Fun 2025

Due to a quirk in understanding the new event software interacted with the forums we did not get an event thread created for sun and fun 2025. That’s been resolved going forward but this one was missing. So I am creating a fresh event thread here and will get it linked into the event.

I will be there today in this evening for both airshows and in between. Unfortunately, due to shifting schedules, I will have to leave before tomorrow’s dinner.

If you are attending or around or looking to meet somebody, please post here and hope I see some of you.

Thanks Mark. Got your message. Have to stick that one in the tips and tricks file. When you get to the type club tent tell Mike Harding about it so that he can post Sun n Fun info to the thread.

Hopefully I can catch up with you before you leave.I should be in around lunch time.look forward to seeing everyone today.

I'm envious of you guys... I like SnF very much. I just get the email for dorm rooms at AV before I would have to plan for SnF. I sign up for the dorm experience first.

Sorry I missed you guys. I was at the show today but didn’t make it to the type tent. Where is it this year?

Where does everyone like to stay? I have never been before and would be flying commercial from Seattle, so tent camping is probably out. Maybe rent an RV? Hoping 2026 will pan out, but just want to plan ahead!

Was there Saturday. Asked around for location the type club tent. Finally found one of the volunteers who seemed to have an idea. My wife and I tramped out into the outback where the Comanches were and they had no idea where the Beeches were. Found an empty tent for Cessna 120/140's but no Beeches! Much have been one of those secret undisclosed locations...

Proof of my visit is attached.

Other things I learned:
Aspen
If you want to use the E5 with your Century IIB autopilot you can do so, but you must maintain your artificial horizon in order to have the autopilot functionality, which means you can't remove the vacuum system yet.

Bendix
If you were interested in the Bendix autopilot, well forget it. Sounds like Bendix is going to exit the GA scene.

Trio
Trio and Aspen have a partnership however Trio is not yet certified for our aircraft. When I questioned when we can expect the Trio I was told they will start on certifying the Bonanza about this time next year. I informed them the Sierra was not a Bonanza, it is a Be24 and not a Be35/36. I was then told they plan to request the FAA to approve for not only the Bonanza but similar types which they believe the Sierra/Sundowner/Musketeer would fall under - this is how the have done the Cessna and Piper line.

Hartzell
I inquired whether or not they had it on the radar to certify the 2 blade scimitar prop for the Sierra as it is already approved for the Cardinal running the same engine. I was told no, nope, nada. I then asked would it change if I had a group of 5+ that would be willing to purchase the prop. I was given a contact and told that if I had 5 or 6 that would commit to a purchase there was a chance but no guarantee. They advise the best path forward would be a field approval which they believe would be easily obtainable.

This year we did one night at the Hilton Garden Inn just on the north side of the airport. Good luck, I just happened to come by it as I was looking online, it was "sold out, but not for you" as a Diamond member perk. I then was able to use points instead of the outrageous amount of dollars they wanted per night.

I have to say it really is a great location and they have a 2nd floor deck which is great for airshow viewing which is where we watched the blue angels practice from on Thursday.

Most people though will camp or have to travel a distance if they want a hotel.

I will also make a pitch for the 9/27 club. They have a chalet at show center, air conditioning, 2 or 3 meals a day, drinks (beer, water, wine, seltzers), snacks, and prime show viewing. Tickets are pricey ($200) but if you add up what those cost individually and then take into account the air conditioning and not having to use a honey bucket it isn't too terrible. Plus it makes the wife happy. All proceeds go towards kids aviation courses to assist with licenses and ratings.

I had extensive interactions with the Trio guys regarding making APs for our Beeches about 3 years ago. It is really the STC Group, because Trio just makes the AP, and STC manages the implementation. I would not believe anything from them until I saw it myself.

Agreed, I am skeptical whether it could be approved with the Bonanzas anyways.
