Join my EAA Chapter 108 in Crestview, FL (KCEW) for food, fun and flying fundamentals with famed Podcaster Dan Gryder. Current plan is 9:00-12:00, Saturday, March 16, 2024. Dan travels the country briefing the critical aspects of Advanced Qualification Program (AQP) which focuses on the unexpected events/incidents/emergencies and how to handle them...actions that aren't necessarily part of our flight training. His seminars also incorporate a little musical entertainment and maybe a tour of his DC-3 if he flies it down. I will also post this among our other FB sights, via Constant Contact, and the BAC website.

Your links arent working.
I dont do FB and the chapter website link only takes you to the chapter homepage.

Please report back after his talk. I'm curious to hear how it goes. I have exchanged some emails with him over some things and have thought about trying to get him to come to my chapter. He lost me in that last debacle he was involved in though, I haven't paid attention to him in a while.

Never heard of him... But never was interested in listening to Podcasts... So many that just are clueless!

Listen to Opposing Bases. One instructor ATP and one National Guard Chinook and King Air pilot who became controllers. After 300 episodes, the NG pilot retired and the ATP quit the FAA to take an airline job. But they're still doing a podcast on the NAS.

There's a fair amount of banter/chatter, but enough meat to make it very worthwhile.

He is short on diplomacy. But I think much of what he says is valuable. I can learn from anyone. The issue is what to incorporate and what to reject.
I listen to him once in a while. He has some interesting insight but I find that he is excessively windy. I prefer content that gets to the point without all of the extra talk not related to the subject matter. I dont mind a little self-promotion as sometimes it helps to validate your information but nonstop gets old. He isnt on my never-listen-to list but I will switch him off if it does too much of the above.

They’re on my weekly must-listen list. In fact they’re the only podcasters who are on that list.

Agree with all the above comments and opinions. He certainly is quite an agitator/anti-establishment guy...but I think his heart is in the right place. He was my MEI instructor and myself and two other classmates stayed a few days longer to get our DC-3 SIC.

Nevertheless, outstanding instructor with lots of experience in the airlines and GA. But, yes, he sure likes to rub it in with his nay-sayers and lets it get too personal; but seems to justify his positions/arguments in his blogs. Sometime it's really hard to get the real straight skinny these days!

Of course, there are a lot of other good bloggers out there for sure. I get tired of his fluff as well, but that's part of his schtick. He offers these seminars for free and has a good following and provides great food for thought. I'll let you all be the judge.

Hope y'all, if able, can find a reason to come out to the Emerald Coast/Lower Alabama/Redneck Riviera!

Otherwise, fly safely and have a very Merry Christmas and great Holiday Season!

Sorry about the confusion regarding the fly-in website...yes, it's just my EAA Ch 108 site...working on a better graphic.

If interested, please click or cut/paste to your browser, the below link. Need to get an estimate of attendees for logistic purposes. Also, per the link, be aware that the KCEW FBO ramp will be under repair, so aircraft parking could be at a premium.

That would be an incentive like none other.... If anyway possible, I would be there for that if no other reason... Just Being in a Static DC3 is fascinating, Flying in one, especially in the cockpit would be over the top!

I've asked him what he plans to charge for rides and haven't gotten a firm answer, but at least he plans to fly it down. As mentioned above, be prepared for parking challenges as KCEW plans to begin repaving their ramp during this time. Will update as to parking options. Hope we can get a decent crowd. I've publicized this among nearby EAA chapters and other local flying organizations.

I once got a ride in an R4D/C117 in the Navy. It was the Super DC-3 that came with a DC-4 vertical tail, wheel well doors and Wright R-1820s of 1475 hp. Big improvement over the DC-3s 1200 hp P&Ws, although I think there were some civilian DC-3s fitted with the P&W R-2000 with 1450 hp.

So far we have about 50 people and around 10 airplanes that plan to attend. Forecast weather isn’t the greatest. Parking might be premium is that KCEW is repaving the ramp and you might have to park north of the Lockheed ramp. We should have folks marshal airplanes as required. It’s going to be a potluck breakfast at 9 o’clock followed by Dan‘s presentation at 10. Not sure whether he plans to bring his DC3 down or not. Let’s hope he does!
