Western NC Fly Camp Hike and Fish (KAVL) May 20th - 23rd

If you're looking for an AT partner, I'm your guy! I'm sure Werbin will want to join in too!

Don,

I just heard from John that he can't get off to make the trip, which makes me 50-50 on attending. I'm trying to get someone to go along and share expenses, bu no luck so far. If spending a few days, or even day trips, on the AT happens, I might even drive. I have a grand daughter graduating high school the following week and I'm not allowed to miss that, so I need to make sure I can get back. I'll let you know more as soon as I know more.

Ask for a Biltmore departure and enjoy a bird's eye view of the Biltmore Estate. Biltmore in Asheville, NC, is a National Historic Landmark with America's largest home, gardens, winery, and world-class luxury inn.

Donald,

I am getting the airplane ready and looking at my fuel stops - - - what's our head count?

I will depend on your equipment for cooler space and a cooking stove burner. Will buy my consumables after I land. I am packing small tent, camping chair, sleeping bag, camera (!) and folding bike. Get ready for several games (or introduction to) of "Wizard" - - great card game shown to me by a sailor in the boat next door at Anacortes.

Right now its

Doesn't look like Bob's going to make it. Gary just came out of retirement, told me he'll let me know if they can do it as we got closer.

If I do make it, it will be a last minute decision. Having some PT on my knee, so major hiking is probably out for me, we'll see.

I still want to hike on the AT sometime!

I'm out. Mary and I will be staying close to home and do the Wings Fly-B-Q for a few hours.

The consulting gig is easy money but being off this week due to wx made me realize I really miss the retired life and being an airport bum. My Bride even said how nice it is to do things during the day together, running errands and spending time on the boardwalk. I have a sneaky feeling the next phase of this project will be looking for a new resident engineer.

Hope you all have a good time!!

In addition to the normal stuff, tent, sleeping bag, chair, etc..., I can supply any and all of the following. Yes, I can and have fit this into my plane before! EZ-Up shelter, folding table, portable gas grill, cooler. What, if any, do you need me to bring?

I have it all covered Alan I even got some bags for my corn hole boards. 2 - 6' tables, 1 - 4' table, 1 - 120 qrt. cooler and 1 - 40 qrt. my home grill. Oh and of course my lovely smiling self, who could ask for more. Just bring what ever personal gear you think you will need. We'll probably spend most of our time on trail.

If y'all want to eat lunch on trail (freeze dried, mountain house) I can bring my pack gear for that just let me know. I usually just snack.

I'm jealous! Gotta get my knee in shape for the AT trip this fall! Have fun, and I want a full report...

Wow, I so much wished I could go to this. My 11 year old son would have an awesome time and we could use the plane ... A perfect combination.

I can handle snacking for lunch. What's the plan for breakfast and supper?

That's why I suggested we all hit the grocery store down the road on the first day. Everybody might have different diets, let people pick what they want and I'll do my best at cooking it for you or they can use whatever equipment I have. I was going to bring my smoker also but it's pretty big and no more people than we have coming not really worth it. Eggs are no problem I have that covered, we are getting about 18 a day off our hens right now. I'll bring green beans, corn on the cob and hamburger meat, from the garden or the field. I can bring venison roast and stew meat if no one is against it.

Stakes, burgers, pork chops, hotdogs, biscuits, bacon, eggs, grits, soups, stews, roasts, mixed vegies, steamed broccoli and carrots can all be done on the grill or over the fire. I've tried cookies before in a Dutch oven didn't go to good, might be able to pull off a cobbler though. This stuff will need to be purchased.

We can also just do breakfast in camp and eat out each night. I'm not picky I'll eat anything, I grew up in cajun country, there's not many things I haven't eatn'. To bad we cant do trout from the stream.

Any suggestions or preferences? Sing out guys, we have a week. Let me know what you want and I'll do my best to provide.

Any food allergies or dislikes I need to consider? If we decide to do all the cooking in camp I'll start putting a menu together and pre-perches what we need. That will save us a little time on Friday.

Friday will be a little hectic due to arrivals and camp setup so we will keep it simple. We can't check in until 4pm.

What I'm thinking for meal plans if we decide to cook in camp. This is not set in stone so if we need to change it up, no problem.

Friday 20th

Lunch - Take out

Supper - Hamburgers and or Hotdogs with chips

Saturday 21st

Breakfast -
Eggs(however you like them, I'm not poaching them), Bacon, Hash Browns, and Biscuits, Coffee, OJ

Supper - Marinated Steaks and grilled vegies (Squash, zucchini, carrots, peppers and onions)

Sunday 22nd

Breakfast
- Eggs, Bacon, Grits and Biscuits, Coffee, OJ

Supper - Chicken or Pork Chops, Home Style mashed potatoes, and corn on the cob

Monday 23rd

Breakfast
- My signature French Toast and again of course Bacon!

We will be breaking camp Monday (check out noon) so no lunch or supper planed. I'll need input on this guys so I can make adjustments as needed. Allergies being the number one thing I need to know.
