Virginia Festival of Flight. April 30, May 1. Great Fly in event.

Headed to Andromeda
The Virginia festival of Flight (www.virginiaflyin.org) continues to evolve and grow. This year the event will be the weekend of April 30, May 1, 2011. This will occur at KSFQ in Suffolk VA, a bit west of Norfolk and well out of the class C area. Is anyone interested a showing up, checking out the exhibits, and viewing the planes? BAC can pick up the tab for member's registration and we can compare planes. Alan White suggested this event and I know a few of us usually show up. It is a great time of year to fly! And this event is usually a pretty big regional flyin with seminars and vendors.

Ed, you just want to fill in another state on your map! And it is only 32 miles to the nearest airport (ECG) in NC!

We can all make a short flight to Wright Bro.s museum at First Flight Airport for Pizza and Ed's NC sticker!

I contacted the flyin and they will attempt to park us together if we can get a head count and let them know about how many to expect. They will let us hang our banner at the dining tent (how big is it?) and use it as a centralized meeting place.

Sounds like a plan! Hopefully I won't bring Tornados like Sun n Fun. I may get banned from events this year!

These guys are great to work with and pretty flexible. Thanks to Allan White for making contact. I think the dining tent there is usually a hundred seats or so.
it is well worth checking the schedule, some years there is a great selection of talks. And this is the only event that I ever attended that had flying lawnmowers.

They have asked that everyone arriving have a sign made up (a la Sun 'N Fun) that says "Beech Aero Club" so that the linemen will know where to park us. I will arrive early Saturday to coordinate things. I will be camping at the plane. I will bring a grill so if anyone wants to bring something to throw on the grill Saturday evening, they're more than welcome. I think I can get an Easy-Up tent in the plane too so we might can congregate at the planes.

Wow, sounds like fun, and a quick flight down from Warrenton, VA; unfortunately, the plane is still an ongoing project. The A&P keeps getting other things to work on...maybe next year.

I could pick you up if wanted. It's not too far out of my way. I'm going down Sat AM and tenting overnight and leaving Sun PM.

I'm going to head up there too and finally meet a few fellow BAC'ers. It's a short hop from my home base at KHNZ. Fly up Saturday, tent it, home Sunday.

I have at flight lesson I have to be back for at 4pm at PHF that Saturday. I plan on coming for the morning and early afternoon that day. Though I finally got 9782L up here from KLUX yesterday, I'm not soloing yet, so l will have to come by car.

I saw your plane at KLUX yesterday morning, nice looking plane!
Maybe your CFI would fly with you to the Festival of Flight? It would certainly be a great lesson. And your CFI might like to enjoy the event.

We had thought about doing the BAC part on Saturday and then flying out Sunday AM to First Flight at Kitty Hawk. Does that work or should we reverse it and do the fly out to First Flight on Saturday and the BAC part on Sunday? Any opinions?

I am in favor of.waiting till weather for.the weekend becomes apparent. We certainly can be flexible. But probably I would check out seminar schedule too and see what is of interest on each day too.
I am OK with either schedule.
