We are going to Spruce Creek outside of Datona Beach FL next week to look at some property. It looks great on the website but i would like to hear any comments form people with first hand experience.

Never been there although overflew it on the way to BacFest last month and have flown in the area multiple times. Looked pretty from the air. The Florida coast is beautiful flying. Good place to have your IFR - there's plenty of fair weather cumulous that becomes a broken ceiling 2k-3k. Daytona Beach and New Smyrna can both be very busy during the week with training traffic. DB is a pretty easy going Class C - normal transition I prefer is along the N/S runway overhead. They want the shoreline transitions at or below 1100 and west of DB is busy airspace. You might try the "Destinations" message board at iPilot.com for a wider audience to your question than BAC.

I took a tour of Spruce Creek (Daytona FL) with the real estate people. They were very accomodating. I also know residents there. My impression is that it is a great place with nice people and a wonderful aviation theme. Streets are runways and everybody talks flying. Lots of help, advice and hangar flying. I considered buying John Travolta's old house there. I didn't make an offer though was tempted. I see no danger in searching for your ultimate home there because you may find it. The addition of golf and nice weather should be a plus. Of course, our Beech 23's are not on the top of the food chain at Spruce Creek. However, I don't think what you fly puts you any higher or lower there. Being a pilot is enough. Non pilots would like living there too.

We just returned of Spruce Creek and it was all and more than we expected. Even my wife was impressed enough to go along when I wanted to buy. I am happy to say that we are now "Creekers" as they say. Right now it will be a part time home but I hope to finally end up living full time. After I get settled in Iwill see about hosting a BAC event in the future.
