Hi Folks,

RE: KBFD - Bradford Regional - PA
Saturday - March 17th @ 11:00

OK - time to blow the cobwebs off those old tin flying machines - for those of you who take the winter off... Let's try something new - at least from my perspective... Several folks have expressed interest in KBFD (Bradford PA)... They are known to have good chow on the field and friendly FBO's... While PA is a "Northeastern State" - it's definately the wild wild west for our New England centric group... It's also adjacent to two other regions - so it's time to get out there and represent... Let's make sure we have some visitors from those adjacent regions as well... Heck - I don't even know what's on the other side of PA - is that MT ??? LOL... So come one - come all - hopefully we'll have some nice weather...

Hope to see some new faces...

Hey - Let's be careful out there...

Regards,
Scott

Sounds like a great time . I might actually get some points this year. I love that flightbook app Scott! I should be a go for Bradford. JP

You are brave souls indeed. Anyhow you have to check out the Kinzua Bridge, which is approximately 5 miles to the south east of Bradford. Check it out online. What you see is the direct result of a spring microburst that occurred a number of years ago. Ground zero was about 1/4 mile from the northwest side of the bridge. All of the trees were knocked down away from the epicenter in every direction up and over the ridges. Quite impressive. I took pictures for the CAP right after it happened.

Hey I'm up for it. I won't be getting any points though as my sport is based at KBFD. But I am all for helping out if I can. I will be heading to the airport this week and I will find out the restaurant hours. I know they aren't open but a few hours a day. I might be able to get some ground transport as well.

Hi Gary,

Sounds good - nothing like have the home field advantage - we could use all the help we can get... If you could confirm that they are open at our planned time - it would be greatly appreciated...
:)

Scott

I'll pencil this one in and see how the family schedule plays out. 08Romeo and I sure could use some flight time!!

I was down to KBFD today. The restaurant is closed. I guess I'm not surprised, as it's been an on-again off-again thing for several years now.

If we want to eat, we probably have three options:

1. We could bring our own lunch. There is a small conference room in the terminal they may let us use. If not, there is the terminal waiting area, or outside if the weather is nice.

2. We could order out. I'm sure there must be some pizza or take out place that would deliver to the airport.

3. Someone based at KBFD could offer to drive to a local burger and sandwich restaurant a couple of miles down the road from the airport. We'd need a headcount to make sure we all ride. I don't think that there is a courtesy car at KBFD,so that's not an option. There is a Hertz rental counter, so we could split the cost of a rental.

Any preferences?

Glenn

Another option could be go to Franklin (KFKL) where there is a good restaurant or to Saint Marys (OYM) where they also have a good restaurant. I'm planning on a fly-in to KFKL the first weekend in October for their Apple Festival. Saint Marys has the Pennsylvania Elk herd nearby and you may see some from the air,

Harvey, PA Air Boss

St Marys is very close to Bradford and I hear the restaurant is ok. I'm willing to try it. Franklin has a great place to eat but it would mean a further flight for those coming in from the East.

A change of venue may not be practical at this point due to the fact that not everyone who may attend will check the website before leaving.

Hopefully, Gary Hanchet will respond as to whether he was successful in finding some ground transportation at KBFD.

I guess ultimately, Harvey Haag, the PA Airboss, or Scott, the original poster, can make the decision. I'm good for whatever we decide. It will be too nice a day not to fly somewhere!

Glenn

I just called up to St Marys regarding the Silver Wing Restaurant and found out that the place is temporarily closed. I guess this narrows the selection again. Franklin is a nice place and I like going to DuBois which is small but nice too.

Uggh - what's a fly-in without good food ???

I just picked the place because Glenn mentioned it was good...

I have no knowledge of the local area...

I'm up for whatever...

Should we reschedule ???

We can try emailing anyone who mentioned going...

Scott

OK - I emailed everyone who responded on this thread - to please check the board before flying...
