Sedona, AZ fly-in get together

Friends,
Marty and I are meeting up in Sedona. The dates are 24-25-26 of April. I can only be there on the 25 th and check out on the 26 th. I will be at the Bell Rock Inn. I used Kayak and the Priceline Special deal section. The cost was 135.00 total. This is a book your own adventure. If you have never been to Sedona check it out on the Web.

The airport is on the top of a plateau. The Field elevation is 4800 feet with a long runway. Don't let the elevation scare you off. This is a must see location. We will get together for site seeing during the day and dinner Sat Evening. The location to be announced.

Come one come all !

Sounds good, Bob! LeeAnne and I will try to be there. We have intended to get to Sedona for years but have never made it down there. Hope we have a good turn-out!

That's great! I can't wait to see you guys. Donna and I will be there Sat morning...weather permitting.

I wish I could come, but I'll be in Iowa moving some stuff (homebuilt airplane) down to NM. Bad timing, grrr. Once my life stabilizes I'll be able to attend stuff like this. Next year!

Caution to those flying into Sedona for the first time. The view behind the airport, is just amazing. Trying to focus on the airport and landing when you are looking at that view, can be hazardous to your health.

Rick

let's see .... Sedona .... or the baptism of our first grandbaby ......

Ready to hit the starter, but guess what mom sez ...... (!) ... and what is appropriate .... Life's too short!

You all have a great time,
Nelson

This video is a good example on how not to land at Sedona. Apparently there was not significant wind. Even so, you normally use RWY 03 for landings, not downhill on RWY 21. Also, you should always make a steep approach, not drag it in. You encounter burble at the approach end of the runway when low and slow, you risk getting a wreath placed in your honor. I know this was a student pilot, but I think there was an instructor on board. If so, the student should find another instructor. This is not a hard place to land unless there are significant cross winds. If there are, you will work all the way to the runway and then some.

Ok Guys and Gals we are a week away from this flyin. If God is willing my wife, Donna and I will arrive about noon on Sat. My cell phone is 530-908-1172. I hope to see a few folks there. If you can't fly, drive ! If you can't attend look at the Calander for other BAC events. This is a full month.

If the weather and wind permits we will try to make it in on Friday and stay till Sunday. Checked Sky Ranch bookings and they show rooms unavailable through the weekend. Any other suggestions on where to stay?

Bob and I are staying at the Bell Rock Inn. There is also a Best Western at the bottom of the mesa just across Rte 89. They have a courtesy van and will come and get you. There are some restaurants within walking distance. I think we may have to rent a car or get a taxi to get to the Bell Rock.

Guys my weather forecast has prompted my decision to cancel my participation in the Sedona Fly in. My home weather went from sunny and in the 80's to 20% chance of rain and wind gusts of 20 mph during the time I should be flying. The weather at Sedona went from a mild forecast to 40% chance of rain both Sat and Sunday. since I need to leave early Sunday this puts a damper on my plans. I have made it a rule that I never cross the mountains during any weather event. So it is with a heavy heart I am remaining home. Sorry to all. Bob Lewis

Same here. Storms forecast in the mountains are forcing us to cancel our plans to go to Sedona. Maybe next time. Sedona is still on my bucket list.

I saw the radar this afternoon Dave. Kind of crazy along the front range, huh? Now it all is headed my way.

Yep, this is the pattern we normally see about the middle of July to the middle of August. Storms lined up behind the front range that come over the top about noon. I think it is because the Jet Stream has slipped so far south. Oh well I will fly in to Sedona some time!

I'm going anyway. Just finished another landscaping project and will reward myself with a night away with the wife. Gonna try the Trattoria in Oak Creek. Let you know if is worth a return trip.

To all that missed the Sedona Fly-In, it was great! OK, the weather wasn't the best. But Saturday afternoon was full of fun.

Saturday evening was just about as good.

I will admit, that this morning a departure would have been an experience if you happen to be flying VFR.

But, all and all a great time by all. Glad I could get all the attendee's in the pictures.
