Northeast Flying Opportunity

Looking forward to the Orange County (NY) general fly-in. Should be a decent crowd. There is already a pretty good contingent of Baby Beeches on the field so we will have our banner there.

John Wood (KMGJ is his home field) is securing some consolidated parking space for our birds. Let him know if you are going and for any questions.

I am told there are numerous food venues on field, for good causes etc, so we will probably have cool drinks and leave the burning meat to others.

John tells me there is lots to do in the area, assuming you even want to leave the field.
See you there,

Great finally a fly-in in my neck of the woods, and a weekend I'm not woking...But its the weekend of my marriage!!!! Think se'll be upset if I postpone the vows!

Well, hey, Nick, it's a good litmus test. Hmm, maybe not.
Anyway, I'm trying to set up some other dates both north and south of you. Sometime in July or August I want to do one at Greenwood Lake. And there are plenty of nice spots in NJ.

Any places ring a bell for you? It's too little time and too many airports. So I will depend on members to give me a heads up.

Meantime, take care of your honey. Oh, and your fiance' too.

Would like to see if we can get a representative sample of all the BAC types. We have most based on the field but missing a Dutchess and Skipper. Fellow BACer Roger Gibbini and I have hangars in the same row not far from the main ramp so there'll be some shade available and a place to get away from the crowd . I'll try to arrange parking for BAC on the adjoining taxiway - but I'll need an estimate of attendees.

I'll be driving in and can help with ground transportaion if needed. For anyone interested in RON there are a couple of B&Bs and motels close by. KMGJ has free overnight parking if you decide to stay over. There are some interesting places to visit in the area:

For the bikers - Orange County Choppers is 2 miles South.
For the hippies - Woodstock site is about 30 mi West near KMSV.
For the shoppers - Woodbury Common Outlets about 30 mi South.
For the Patriots - West Point about 20 mi South East.
For the Historians - Revolutionary Army's last encampment and Purple Heart Memorial about 15 mi South.
For the golfers - Public course 2 mi South
For the tourists - train to NYC about 5 mi South
For the hikers - Appalachian trail about 25 mi South
For the environmentalist - the county has HAZMAT collection scheduled same day  .
For the gourmets - Cullinary Institue of America about 15 mi East near KPOU.
For the skiers - Catskills are .... no wait that's for the winter fly-in :!:

Or you can just hang out on the field.

If you haven't been to MGJ before it has 2 runways 3-21 5000 x 100 & 8-26 3600 x 100 - no tower. Right pattern on 21 & 26. VASI on 3, PAPI on the others. There's a 700' hill abeam the numbers on the downwind for 21 and TPA is 1400'. Super AWOS available with 3 mike clicks on CTAF 122.725 and ASOS on 119.275.

If you plan on attending add a post to this thread. If you need any additional info send a PM or give me a call (C) 845-781-8606.

Hope to see y'all

John Woods

Hey CB - met you 2 weeks ago at the gas pumps in KSCH when I was picking up my C150. It's still there - long story, I'll tell you about it at KMGJ. Bring your new bride - She can go to the Outlets at Woodbury Common and won't miss you at all :P .

Weather gods seem to be cooperating for Saturday's fly-n at MGJ. Forecast is for High skies, good visiblity, upper 70's and SW winds at 5-10. With these conditions expect Rwy 21 to be active with RIGHT TRAFFIC. Some caveats for 21: 800' msl hill (FE is 365') abeam the numbers on downwind, Walkill river wraps around 3-21 and usually provides a dip on final just before the threshold, windsock on the left near the PAPI. I'm working with Airport OPS to get parking along taxiway Charle near T5 for BACers.

Some Expo notes:
Main ramp area will be closed for static display.
Self-serve fuel will be closed.
Delivered fuel should be priced at self-serve price ($4.50 today).
Young Eagles flights are planned - volunteers welcome.
We have 5 spots in the static area for exhibit next to a King Air and L39. These planes will be grounded from 9am to 3:30 (insurance reg).
Food will be available - not free so plan accordingly.
I will provide a vehicle if ground transport is needed.

Looks like the rain date won't be needed for OCPA Expo. The storms passed through here last night and the skies are clearing. Fly Safely!

Well, not quite all the way clear. I'm sitting in Westfield MA with 400' and .75 miles viz. I'll get there when I can.
