I will not make it to KLUX. But I will be there in spirit. I will set aside time this weekend to celebrate and give thanks for Mike's life, remembering a friend, fellow pilot and fellow aircraft mechanic. I will be thinking of my friends who do manage to get together. Kudos to Bob Lewis and the West Coast guys for getting together there. Thanks to BACFest for allowing me to spend some vacation time with Mike the last three years. Giving me the opportunity to get to know him in person and learn from him first hand. I know that no one that was at the hangar in Myrtle Beach that day will ever forget how much he taught, even us seasoned aircraft mechanics, about these aircraft, in just a few short hours.

To all who are planning on coming in to KLUX on Sunday or Saturday, the event on Sunday is a go per Paula. Weather here at KLUX is forcast to be chance of T-Storms Friday night and early Sat. morning, with 20% chance on Saturday and 30% on Sunday, with the chances of T-Storms and weather later that evening Sunday.

I'm planning to be there, should have Dominick with me. Hope to come in Saturday early afternoon to meet with Chad on some issues and then stay the night. All VFR weather permitting of course.

I have arranged the days off necessary to attend in Laurens. I will be coming in on Saturday, probably via Charlotte and a rental car. I don't know the flight availability yet, but I will get there one way or another. I will probably leave Monday morning back via Charlotte. Anyone else needs a lift that I can help with, let me know.

Okay, for those who are driving in, Interstate 385 north and south is shut down for construction. In South Carolina's infinite wisdom, they have shut down both sides until August. This affects only Laurens County from Mile marker 14 to Mile Marker 0 where it ties into Interstate 26. This will affect you coming out of Greenville SC only. If you have a GPS in the car, it should be able to route you effectively if you remember 385 is closed. However, if not then I would suggest you take 85 north or South to Spartanburg SC, depending on which way you are coming into the area. Continue on to where Interstate 26 ties into Interstate 85, in Spartanburg. Take the Interstate 26 south towards Columbia. Follow it all the way to Exit 52 and Exit 54 (both Clinton Exits), the first one is just past the merge, so move to the right lane, and the second is just down the road about a mile and half past this exit. The first Clinton exit is where you find Comfort Suites. To get to Comfort Suites, exit the interstate, come to the stop sign, and turn left, it is over the bridge on the Left just past the McDonald's. For the Hampton Inn, it is the next Exit 54 I believe(PC college). Exit on the ramp and at the stop sign, turn right and the next Left (about a 1/4 to a 1/3 of a mile on the left, you should be able to see it from the road) past the gas station is the entrance to both Fatz and Hampton Inn.

If you need help or other directions, call Chad at 678-591-0128 or myself at 864-923-0574 and we can help you out. IF you arrive by plane, to KLUX someone will be there to get you to where you need to be.

Also, on Sunday, if you don't have a car, coordinate with Chad (he's the transportation chief) so that we can get you back and forth as needed. All fly safe or drive safe as it maybe, looking forward to seeing all that arrive..

Sorry to say, but looks like I will not be able to make it tomorrow. The time change created a morning conflict I couldn't resolve. Will look forward to a BAC tribute coordinated with BACFest.

I'll be there. Leaving Wilgrove (Charlotte) at 0900. Anyone want a lift call my cell after 0800 (7049044706). Leave the house at 0830 (nice to live 3 mi from airport). IFR flight plan filed.

I tried guys! I got as close as 48 nm's and the clouds were too high and too thick and LUX was still IFR. I can't tell you how sorry I am to miss it. I can hear Mike now telling me not to do anything stupid (like VFR flight into IMC), so I know I made the right call.

I'll be back to LUX and hope to see Paula then.

Mike Dawson and I got over KLUX (in his plane) about 10am, but the cloud deck was very solid with a 400' ceiling, so we turned around headed back to Georgia. Then decided to land at Clemson which was clear, and waited about an hour until KLUX was reporting 1200 ceiling. Departed KCEU and be the time we got there it was about 2200 scattered. So we got there even if 30-45 min late. Monty was kind enough to come get us and take us to the theater. Both of us were glad we made it, as it was good to talk to Paula, Jamie (Mike's brother), and members of the BAC that we hadn't met before. Sad time but great celebration of Mike R's life. Jamie shared stories of their childhood, and also later things in Mike's life. We appreciated that sharing.
Si ya again sometime,

I left Wilgrove at 0920. Ceiling was 600. Flew in IMC about 1/2 way until I got assigned 4000. Then I was above it and in nice sunny weather. Flew the GPS 8 approach into KLUX and got a lift to the theater from Monty's dad. By the time I landed (10:40) the ceiling was about 1400MSL (700 ft ceiling). Coming home was VFR but filed IFR anyway. (good practice).
Kind of emotional for me being there. Mike saved me a LOT of money with his advice and friendship. I will trully miss him.

I would like to thank all who attended today, it was good to see such support for Paula and her family. It was, as Dr. Bill said, tough, but I believe that Mike was there with us, laughing and enjoying the company of so many of his friends as we celebrated his life and what he meant to all of us. I also know that Mike was with Bob Lewis and everyone else today, enjoying their company also.

We all have traveled so many different paths to where we are today, but the commonality is that Mike was our guide, our friend who gave his encouragement to continue onwards, when we sometime doubted or slowed down not sure of our next step. But some how, with his guidance, we all have arrived at the same destination this time together, and that alone is a testimonial to his wisdom, perseverance, and belief in each of us. Soon, I know that I will begin a different path, this time alone, but knowing that his guiding hand is there gently nudging me to a destination unknown to me, but confident that Mike knows where it will end. I would like to believe that Mike has set each of us, once again, on different paths to each of your own destinations, but collectively, whose destination will undoubtedly once again be the same. I believe in my heart, that Mike will be with each of you in your future flights, as co-pilot, watching over you all. As long as a "Baby Beech" is flying his spirit will be there. As long as a "Baby Beech" is operational, his efforts to keep it that way, directly or indirectly, will make him smile and provide comfort to him that his passion for them was not in vain.

I owe a lot to Mike, as each of us probably do in some form or fashion, but I know that a simple Thank You was more payment in his eyes than anything else I could have offered.

Mike, rest in peace, rest comfortably. I am honored that I was able to call you a Friend, as some many others have also. I will miss you.

Rest well my friend....

I also took GPS Rwy 8 through the solid deck and broke out right at DA. Mike & Greg, I could have thrown you a rope and you could have followed me in but ATC probably wouldn't have liked that. Or better yet, you probably wouldn't have liked it. I am glad you guys decided to hang out and come back as it was well worth the trip and the wait. We tried to get you on the handheld after I landed to let you know it was breaking up, but we figured you were too far away. To the Rellihan Family...I am honored to be a part of Mike's Celebration. Thank You!!!

Too many T-Storms on the chart for a trip from this direction. We spent the day here with a movie anyway in Mike's honor. Wish I could have made it, but will continue to do what I can to help keep Mike alive in our hearts.
