Midwest fly-ins for 2017

NASCAR kicked off their season in Daytona today and reminded me that the Paola fly-in (K81)is on the event calendar for the 13th of May. Also we are discussing having a fly-in at K15, Grand Glaze Airport, on Lake of the Ozarks in the summer. This would be an event on the lake and will have a boat ride to cross to the event site. More to come on this later. I also think we should head down to Lambert's in Sikeston sometime this year toward the fall. I hope the rest of the Midwest crowd can put forth a few ideas that we can discuss.

I am definitely interested in the Lake of the Ozarks and Sikeston Trips. Any idea what weekend you are thinking about for the Lake?

Host Lee Cole has told me he wants to schedule the Ozark trip sometime in September after the busy summer tourist season is over. Brad Mitchell has been talking about a Sikeston fly-in April 22nd, but I have seen nothing official just yet. Stay tuned.

The R.A.F. is hostin' a few midwest shindigs this Spring / Summer that sound awesome...

June 9-11 - The RAF trail at Lee Bottom, IN
June 16 -18 - The RAF trail at North Fox Island, MI
Sept 1-3 - The RAF trail at Swank Field, Ohio

Plan to attend North Fox in my Cheetah. If I can do it you stout Beech bums surely can!

Lake of the Ozarks would be interesting. We're looking to make more fly-ins this year. A change in PTO from accrual to use it or lose it this year has me with ~300 hours to burn by 12/31. We're setting aside two weeks (80 hours) for BACFest and I want a week for the holidays and we've got a couple of weeks between this month and a Memorial Weekend flying loop (annual, lake weekend with the Muses, family wedding and home - what more could you want). Allowing for a day here and there that still leaves me with two weeks more to burn.

I'm going to try for North Fox Island and maybe Lee Bottom. Where can I get more info on those and the R.A.F?

I'm also going for the Lake of the Ozarks fly in as my sister lives in Camdenton, so a good excuse to visit her as well.

The sikeston flyin has been pushed back to summer. Nearly everyone that wanted to go had conflicts in april. Me or Brad will post the date.

How do you feel about landing at North Fox Island in the Beech? I looked and I am little concerned about runway length, especially in the A23-19.

I think Fox island is doable. The notam says 3000ft runway with 800 to 1000ft thresholds at each end. I would be just as worried about the cold water if you had to ditch.

North Fox is a place I definitely want to go! I may have to show up. I certainly don't want to go alone, at least not the first time out there. I have severe anxiety over getting stranded on an island, away from my responsibilities ... at... work... heyyyy... :)

Lee Bottom also looks cool. I'm up in Lafayette and it would be a quick run.
