Mason City (IOWA) BBQ and fun on the way to Oshkosh

This will be our 3rd annual BAC KMCW get-together on the way to Oshkosh 2025. Nelson will get ground transportation and be the shuttle driver (arriving Wednesday, 16th). On call at 210-834-1991 - - send a text with your arrival time. The folks at the Mason City Airport (KMCW) host a REALLY nice BBQ on Thursday evening. Bring your own meat to throw on the grill (just join in on our trip to Walmart that afternoon) and also bring a simple side dish. We normally gather about 3 hours before...

I have reserved a rental car (minivan) for us at Mason City. July 16 (Wed) to July 18 (Fri). My challenge (similar to last year) is to arrive on-site before they close at 4 pm. That means I need to be on the ground at the KMCW airport no later than 3 pm on July 16th.

You all update me with texts on your expected arrival times so I can pick you up ... or just call. We park our planes close to the Phillips 66 sign and the FBO. Good folks.

Feel free to fly in just for the BBQ supper Thursday night and then head on home Friday if you wish. The OSH trip is not a requirement, and you will REALLY enjoy the fun we have at the BBQ supper. The minivan BAC shuttle will be ready for you !

I do plan on flying to KMCW on Thursday. I am flexible on the arrival time. What works out best? I have a waterski tournament on Saturday, so I will depart for home when the festivities are over on Thursday.

On arrival, most land in the afternoon, but some of us, I mean some of those guys (see details below) get there as early as our flight time from home. Spend the day/afternoon/early evening walking around and gawking at the unique and beautiful aircraft there.

For departure, that might get you home early Friday morning... 😃 The festivities can run from the grille dinner into more plane/hangar touring and then into songs and drink around the fire pit. There are people that leave after eating, some that leave so they can arrive home before dark and some that leave in the dark and get home in the dark. Then there are those who engage in the fire pit, the guitars that come out, many many flying stories and certain beverages that ground you for at least 8 hours. We, I mean those guys, leave in the morning. 😉 Several of those guys, who shall not be named to protect their identities and good reputations, stay at the Fairfield and there's room to find a bunk and leave Friday morning if you choose (and can put up with snoring, but nothing as bad as JP or wdnd, ever hear a Wildebeest die, over and over again all night long?).
