Flight Levels
Fly or drive to the Greater Portsmouth Regional Airport (KPMH) and join us at the Skyline Restaurant located on the field for lunch at 11:00am EST. Dan Kirby will host the event. For those interested after lunch Dan has arranged transportation to take a drive and look at the Portsmouth Murals. Don't miss this one. This has been a fun event the last two years. That jolly old elf St. Nick arrives at 11:00am. Bring your kids, grandkids, nieces or nephews and have them sit on Santa's lap!

Reminder, we have an East Central fly-in this coming Saturday. I hope to see as many of you as possible. It has been a good time the last couple of years. Let’s make this one even better.

Sorry I couldn't make it to the fly-in. Was a little too far for the holiday weekend, especially since I was already flying my son back to Milwaukee on Sunday. Was there a good turn out?

Roland, I was flying my daughter 'back' on Sunday also, back to her college town... 4000-5000 overcast and nary a bump to be found, it didn't look like it, but a good day for flying anyway.

We had a good turn out, 9 attendees, 3 Sierras, 1 Sundowner, and 4 other aircraft. Plus we had a couple that showed up in a rented Sundowner from Lancaster, OH Steve and Cheryl Sroufe. I thought they were members of the club. I exchanged information with Steve and I hope we can gain a new member. In attendance were Nick Boland, Mike Hayden, Brad Mitchell, Buddy Ryan, Cy Hanks, Doug Allen, Dan Kirby, Tom Robertson and John Redmon.

Nick and Mike are not pictured. They had to leave early to go to Knoxville, TN.

Wish I could have made it.

My flight Sunday was pretty interesting; dodging snow showers, low ceilings and Chicago Class B airspace. As we were approaching Milwaukee, ATC informed us that Timmerman was closed due to a stuck aircraft on the runway. We had to divert to Waukeshaw, which turned out to be an excellent airport and great FBO. We will go there from now on instead of Timmerman. They even deiced our plane Sunday evening as frost had collected on our wings after the sunset.

Anyone up for a Traverse City or Mackinaw Island fly-in?

Roland,

Next time you are in Waukesha, let me know. I'm based there. I'll buy lunch! The guy that runs the PlaneSafe maintenance facility there is a BAC member, too.

Weather was great around here this past weekend. Flew on Friday to get fuel for Saturday. Before landing at Portsmouth on Saturday I landed at Mason County (3I2) in West Virginia. Filled in another state on my map. Sunday went to Columbus, IN (KBAK) for Breakfast and met a member of the United Flying Octogenarians and his wife. We were seated at the counter and struck up a conversation. They flew in from Dayton, OH in an Arrow II. Learned about some new flying destinations for next year.

I have never been to either Traverse City or Mackinac Island. Let's talk and see what we can put together for next year.

I've always wanted to stay at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island. It was the setting for the 1980 movie, " Somewhere in Time" starring Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour. It's a Michigan State and National historic site. Gorgeous architecture and truly a Grand place to see.
Just wish it was a little closer for me to visit.

Linda and I flew to Mackinac Island a few years ago. It is not just a place to see, but a real experience. We stayed in a bed & breakfast to save. We were also just a block off of the main retail street. The runway has a pretty fair slope to it and I bounced once going in. Felt bad until I saw the next plane come in and it did the same thing. Then I realized it must be a required maneuver at that field....LOL. We watched the movie in the basement of a motel on the main street for free. If you haven't been there, it is a great experience as they do not allow motorized transportation on the island. We got a "taxi" from the airport which was a horse and carriage. Lovely! They do have a lilac festival in the spring that is pretty.
