Let's have a "cold one" in Texas! Feb.20th Tyler,TX

Around The Moon
You all join in and fly a spell on over to Tyler, Texas for a "cold one" (might just need to pull out that heater knob .... a rarity in Texas). We'll gather about 11:30 am on February 20th and head over to the Skyline Cafe located at the airport. How many steps to walk? Darned if I know! This will be my first trip there, so I am hoping for the best. That will be me in my Sundowner taxiing around and looking lost. Centrally located for all of you in the South Central Region, don't ya know ....

LET'S HAVE A "COLD ONE" ON BAC! :D

thanks for the invite Nelson - it will help get my but in gear.

let's not bump into each other as we taxi around looking for food...

Just flight planned it on Foreflight - 697 nm although there is one restricted area that might require a deviation. The Atlanta controllers I'm sure would clear me direct over their airspace if I let them know I'm late for lunch in Texas. Roughly 150 gallons of 100 LL might put this trip into the category of what the hell? An endearing term my wife uses when I do things she deems crazy.

I will be in the piney woods of east Texas in late March or early April. Maybe I can chase down a few of you guys then.

Peace,
Don

Flew over there today. Here is a copy of the hours of operation. There is also an aviation museum there. Guided tours are given. They ask for a $5.00 donation. The cafe' and museum are at the base of the tower, but you have to park at Jet Center FBO next door. The field has 15 commercial flights a day so the ramps are not open for casual walking around.

We would be a shoo-in for this but with a little luck SuperMouse is sold and will be closing around this time and there's a good chance I'm on the road to do some dual time for the next aircraft.

LESS THAN A WEEK AWAY !! Plan to attend and (maybe) you will need to leave some room in the tanks because of all that food!

Bring your best airplane stories and get ready for that much appreciated "ramp photo" of our beautiful planes..... Of course.

Hoping for great weather .... For that "cold one" in Texas.

10 day forecast for Tyler, Texas shows "cloudy" so gentlemen, be watching the weather and be ready to stay on the ground if needed. I am a VFR pilot with personal minimums.

Yes - - I will do my best to fly there and no - - - I will not push my limits just to make a fly-in that I have organized. Let's all see how the weather develops and I will promise to communicate my latest right here as appropriate for the event.

Hoping for the best,
Nelson

TAF's down here near San Antonio are calling for marginal VFR at best until later in the day. Tyler restaurant closes at 2:00 pm tomorrow, so let's make a required 1:00 pm arrival our cut-off for the event as a go / no-go. That way nobody will be expecting a mouse to be there after 2:00 pm. The good news is that weather should improve as the day progresses. But, check all of this tomorrow morning.

Tyler TAF is showing IFR for 8:00 am, mvfr (brkn 1,400) for 10:00 am and then mvfr (brkn 2,500) for 12:00 noon. And then scattered 3,500 at 2:00 pm. Those arriving from better weather areas double check this in the morning and we'll see how the conditions develop. I hope some mouse drivers can make the trip.

FOR ME - - YOUR SMILING HOST - - -
My minimum to launch from San Antonio will be a 2,500 ceiling and 6 miles. Simple. If I don't have this by 11:00 am in San Antonio, and expected improvement for the route and day, I will keep her in the hangar. Feel free to pull up KSAT international for my conditions. I will also post an update here on my travel decision. So - - keep those cards and letters coming in, and pull up this thread in the morning.

FOR ATTENDEES - - - if one or more of you arrive, please post a photo!!! Get those PT miles!

...... and .... so much for the idea of using the heater knob ..... dude ....

Safe travels.

well, we have decided to call it off for tomorrow. Since it is borderline we will be hitting a swap meet instead.

I'll come down to San Antone soon instead Nelson :-)

700 ft ceiling here in San Antonio as I type, so I will be staying in the hangar. Hopefully some coming in from the north or west will have better luck. Fly safe ..... and I will schedule for another day. No pancakes for me. 😞

Hi Trumpet Nelson
I live in La Vernia, looking at buying a Musketeer, mostly for my newly licensed son to build time. Looking for someone local and knowledgeable on a Musketeer, that might impart some knowledge specific to this plane, will want to have CFI (and if Musketeer experience would be a plus), do a few flights with both my son and I. I'll be reading for months on this site (I'm new as of today to the club). Just seeing if anyone can offer a jump start on me getting out of the starting blocks, as I dive in. The plane I'm looking at has 3796TT, 847SMOH, 78/76/76/74 last compressions, NDH, complete logs, July 2015 annual, coming up on prop AD, not IFR certified today, but has the equipment (can IFR be included at time of annual for any savings?). I'm new to the club and the Beech, so I'm open for any input, even if someone is not local. If I should start a new thread I could do that too, but I saw you were in San Antonio. :) I'm open to email or phone, etc, but wasn't sure if I should just post it here, lol.

Ian (in La Vernia),

Welcome to the team! I have just sent you a PM with 3 example links to our forums on "thinking about buying this ... " and the many great responses here at BAC. In addition, I also sent you the thread on my first annual inspection (70 responses!) that contains some reading material as well. And my personal email address and phone number.

Great news to hear you are considering a purchase. Believe me when I tell you the BAC is a part of your purchase decision .... it's that good of a type club.

Look at the forums - - - Buying and Selling group - - - as well as any titles that may look interesting to you. Lots to absorb! And (of course), swing by for a free lunch sometime.
