KGEV - Ashe Co., NC - Take 2 - Lunch at Shatley Springs, Sunday, October 6

They're still pretty rustic!

Scott, I saw the cabins a few years ago. Rustic at very best. Reminded me more of a hunting or fishing cabin than a place for a weekend getaway. But that's not to say they haven't been improved. We'll take a closer look next Sunday.

Weather outlook looks good this time; wish I could do this one, but I'll be gone working all weekend. Be sure to have a sweet tea for me!

This is what's brewing between 27K and KGEV. Doesn't look like I'll be able to make it tomorrow. Maybe 3rd time will be a charm.

I plan on attending. Last flight before my annual and the weather looks very good for a nice cool day in the mountains. (it was 90 in Raleigh today.)

Sorry, I cant make it, but get a head count and those that haven't earned your shirts get back with me. I will mail them out. Pictures also. Fly safe.

Brad,

It's not looking good from your end. Hope to see you next time.

Don,

We'll be there. My daughter and wife are coming hopefully it won't be to bumpy for them.

I was able to get today off but the weather is not looking good for me either. The ILS at Indy Regional is out of service. So, if I was able to get out I might not be able to get back in.

Gary aka "digger" and Deb made it. Don "poitras" made it. Me and mine made it.

Thanks to every one who made it in. For those who was not able to make it I will not tell you about the excellent fried chicken or the home made biscuits, creamed corn, green beans, country ham, mashed taters, cabbage, stewed apples and sweet tea.

I'm sure I forgot something. There was so much food there it was kinda hard to keep up with. I was full before I started.

O yea the sweets. I will give you a break on that.

Blue Grass playing out on the porch. Got to love it.

But the best part of all was meeting BAC's finest. Me and my family had a great time. My daughter wants to know when she will get to see Mis Debbie again. She said it's OK if Gary comes to. These really are some great people.

Im working on posting the pics now.

Donald

The pics are in the gallery under Mid Atlantic Fly-Ins Ashe Co. As you can see by the wind sock, winds calm?

I can see I need a better camera or at least some one who knows how to use this one. There were more pictures but some are out of focus. Fun times any way.

Hope every one made it back safe. Don? Gary?

Don , Sorry I missed it. sounds like a great time . You had your hands full with the list of characters you had there. On behalf of everyone , Way to not get discouraged when a fly in gets postponed and keep it going. I will make sure everyone gets there shirts and the Air Czar will take care of the points . Lets keep the fly-ins going !!!!

Don "Poitras" arrived safe and sound after a sort of sideways take-off from Ashe. :) I've got pics, but I can't figure out how to add to your gallery. I uploaded to my "Poitras" gallery though, so you can copy if you wish. Thanks for hosting a very enjoyable lunch! I'll definitely be back when I visit my niece in Boone.

Hi Don,

I think this photo says it all - is that ALL crosswind ?

Yea strait across. There was a lot of bumps to. Digger and Poitras still made textbook landings wish I could say the same.
"I think Mis Deb was doing the driving"

I was departing one zero and noticed a cherokee on finale just after lift off. He was on the wrong frequency on a strait in for two eight. I visually checked both finales before entering the runway as usual and did not see him. I'll take bad winds over inept pilots any day. Maybe I'm being to harsh we all make mistakes at some point or another. Lord knows I've made mine and I'm sure I have plenty more to come.

Cant expect much much from a cherokee driver anyways.:D Donald
