I will be happy to check with fantasy of flight for availability and requirements for that weekend. This could be a great weekend, even if I do not get to add another state to my map (and no, I do not have a map because I have not flown out of Florida, bucket list). Have flown to Bahamas though, does that count?

Jame,
Please do check for Saturday, December 8th. I see they open at 10 AM. Should we strive to be there by 10:00 and depart no later than 3 PM? Does that sound like a good time frame?

Let's talk tomorrow or Sunday afternoon, if it works for you.

All,
After much discussion with James Olsen, and also talking with RD Ed, we have decided to go with the original plan for the St. Augustine Fly-In. We feel like the Fantasy of Flight would be a nice Fly-In on its own. James and I have agreed to work on the St.Augustine trip this December and I will assist James when he hosts a Fantasy of Flight Fly-In next year.

We have secured a guess speaker for Saturday evening. It is someone I think everyone will enjoy. I will hold who it is for a later date. We are still working on hotel rooms. Our goal is the $100.00 to $120.00 dollar range.

Friday evening we will be “guests” of the SAAPA (St. Augustine AirportPilots Association). They requested we put our planes on display for their group. It is a great opportunity to meet other pilots, their families and share the joys of aviation. They are a wonderful group of people and huge supporters of KSGJ.

Please vote in the poll if you are considering attending. It will be a great help in securing motel rooms and dining location.
If you have any questions, suggestions, or comments, please contact me.

Regards,

Okay, after checking with the Santa Monica hotel, the only real 5 star hotel in St Augustine, we would be looking at $250 a night for weekend nights and $165 for weekdays. Rates require 10 rooms minimum and 80 percent cash deposit, check in or not. To me, too step a price for a flying club dependent upon weather to even fly. Many others places to stay, just saying that the top of the line may be out, work down from there.

Sorry Dave that I could not do better

Crazy, ain't it? All a part of that thing here in Florida they call "the season". At least when I lived in Hawai'i they had kama'aina discounts (special rate for the locals). So...how much to sleep in our planes?

Dave,

I got a quote from Casa Monica (for those unfamiliar, the only 5 star in St. Augustine). About $250 a night for weekends and $165 weekdays. 10 rooms or more and must be 80% paid in full by contract. Probably does not work for a flyin dependent upon weather (they just don't get it).

Sorry. Lots of other less expensive places though.

Jim

Jim,

Thank you very much for trying. I got nearly the same from the Hilton. They were at $250 per night, also. We will keep trying. At least we started at the top and now we will have to lower our standards. LOL.

Great News for St. Augustine Fly-In,

I am very pleased to announce that Michael Slingluff, General Manager of Galaxy Aviation,
St. Augustine, FL (KSGJ), has offered the following incentives to those attending the Beech Aero Club Fly-In held on December 7, 8, & 9.

Motels rooms at Courtyard Marriott or the Fairfield Inn and Suites of St. Augustine at approximately$90.00 plus tax. You may come a few days early and/or stay a few days later.
They will provide you with a rental car for approximately $35.00 per day.
Galaxy will provide full service for the same price as the self-serve pump.
Galaxy will also provide aircraft parking. If you stay two nights, the third night is free.

Michael and Galaxy Aviation are great supporters of general aviation. This generous offer for Beech
Aero Club members will make it easier and considerably reduce the cost
for everyone

We would like everyone to keep in mind the great time to be had in St. Augustine. Please put that on the holiday present list to you and your family.

Also, please vote in our Poll. It would be appreciated.
Thank you,

Dave is really busting his butt to try and get things together for this. It's a great opportunity to visit St Augustine and not be "lost to find your way around". So if you've been considering a trip to St Augustine, seriously consider this and let Dave know of your interest. And the sooner the better.
