Harris Ranch

Hi Bob,

I'll put the 17th on my calendar. I should have my plane back from the avionics shop by then. If weather allows a Sierra Nevada crossing that day, we'll try and make it.

I am scheduled for my PPL checkride on the 24th, but would definitely be interested in attending future events. Driven by Harris Ranch many times, but haven't stopped.

I would like to see names by Friday the 16th. If no one can attend or weather is bad I’ll reschedule. Thanks everyone.

Our a/c will still be in maintenance this weekend so we're a no go for Harris Ranch the 17th.

At the risk of confusing in already difficult task of scheduling, (Bob sincere apologies if I am) the Meet Up group that I listed earlier in this thread has announced their new trip to Death Valley on Saturday April 7th to 8th. The hotel is sold out, with public camping available on a first served basis (which is what we hope to score) about a 1/4 mile from the tie down area at the end of a paved runway 'L09', or we'll place the tent alongside the wing if nothing else is available. Day rates for the lodge are available to access their showers and pool, with a jeep tour of the desert on Sunday tentatively planned before flying home on Sunday.

Additionally, earlier in the thread is mention of Hayward Aircraft Expo March 23-24....Friday is the day Pete and sons with their new to them Super is flying up from Camarillo, so we'd likely make that date as well to kick some high priced tires and act like we belong there.

Weather in Ca looks iffy. I’ll keep posting with the “Go - no Go “ call made on a Friday night post. Bob

Guys tonight’s forecast for the Valley and Harris Ranch areas indicates a no go. The freezing levels will be down to 2400 feet with 50% chance of rain after 11 am. For me it’s a no go. I’ll be rescheduling the event.
Bob

I don’t want anyone , including me, to be tempted to make the flight. It maybe fine but, I’ll reschedule for a better forecast.

Guys I made what now looks like a bad call. From what I can see the forecast was wrong and this event could have happened. I’m sorry for letting folks down.

Any call that errors on the side of caution is a good call? Looking forward to the rescheduled date!

Bob it was the right call. There was a brief time this morning that it was VFR here, and I could see a route to Harris Ranch that looked VFR also. Later in the day, however, it turned rather ugly here with overcast cloud deck and snow showers. If I had left, I doubt I could have gotten home. And, Nexrad was showing considerable showers in the San Joaquin Valley in the afternoon, with cells with heavy rain late in the afternoon. Not worth the risk in my opinion.

Bob,
Weather in southern California has been all over the map, and changing sometimes drastically in a few hours. My plane sat in Paso Robles for 3 weeks due to weather, trips, and work schedule. Picked it up an flew it home yesterday, under conditions that changed in 45 minutes.

Rick
