Weather cut you out of BAC Fest 2007?
Couldn't get away from work this year to make the pilgrimage?
Looking for a BAC event a little 'closer to home'?

Fear not, its time to start talking about BAC to Gastons (airport listing 3M0). For our members who are new this year and may not know. Gastons is a small fishing resort on the white river in Arkansas. It comes with its own grass strip and restaurant. Located near to Mountian Home airport (BPK) for those who may not be ready for the grass just yet.

There is usually a Friday night dinner and then breakfast and lunch on Saturday, departures about 3 pm.

Mark your calendars for 11-2 (Friday) and 11-3 (Saturday). And you can search the BAC website for Gastons to read up on previous events.

Who's planning on coming?

Jay

Paula and I will be there with Skye; just updated the calendar entry. Paula has always wanted to learn to fly-fish. So she chose to have our 40th Wedding Anniversary Celebration at Gaston's, rather than Bermuda!

We'll be arriving on Thursday, fishing on Friday, BAC event Friday night and Saturday, Anniversary on Sunday at Gaston's terrific Sunday Brunch. Special dinner Sunday night, play day Monday (which usually means the limited local shopping), back home on Tuesday.

Skye is going out in the boat, if all goes as planned. He loves to swim anyway, and he has his own life preserver with the handle on the top. Of course, his main entertainment consists of Gaston's numerous squirrels.

Dave, Dusty and Brandy are planning on it. We will only be there Saturday. Visiting parents on Friday in Tahlequah, OK then scooting over to Gastons Early Saturday. See you all there.

Mike and Paula Rellihan will be celebrating their 40th Wedding Anniversary on Sunday November 4, at Gaston's. I have made reservations for a table of ten, for 10AM Sunday, for the excellent Gaston's Restaurant Sunday Brunch. Please let me know who might be staying overnight on Saturday, who would like to join us for the brunch.

We also have a table for two at 8PM for dinner, on the expectation that everyone else will have left by then. If anyone is planning to stay over Sunday night, and you would like to join us, please let me know. I'll be glad to increase the head count for dinner.

I bet Paula hasn't seen this post!

Congratulations Mike & Paula!

(now, the two of you have a lovely dinner alone!!!!)

Becky and I will join you around 9am Saturday and depart 2 - 3pm saturday afternoon.

Yes, this year I plan to land on the Grass!!!

Scheduling conflict, darnit!

Sandra has a Special Olympics Tournament on Saturday 11/2.

Y'all have fun.

Shelbyville, TN is about mid-way between 34A and 3M0. Paula is demanding that we take a break somewhere enroute. Aside from the usual Airnav listings for fuel pricing, anyone have any recommendations for a lunch and fuel stop in this area?

Mike:

To the south of there is Jasper, AL (Walker County--Beville Field (JFX). I found fuel there at $ 3.60/gal. Its almost halfway between you and 3M0.

See you at Gaston's

Gene

Jasper certainly has good references, in addition to yours. I'll keep them in mind when I'm next down that way. Probably a bit further South than I would like to deviate, as I would have Memphis boresighted on the last leg. If I have to be IFR it may not matter, but if VFR I'd rather stay clear.

I'll probably stop at Corinth/KCRX. Seems like we have been there before; and it gives us a shorter leg in and out of Gaston's. I like to have enough fuel to get in, and then back to our fuel stop, with carrying too much extra. Easier on the plane on unpaved fields if I keep it light.

We'll be going through there on Thursday, if anyone wants to match up.

News alert! Blue Poodle AKA 'The Skyemaster' helps his Daddy fly 34A to 3M0, while his Mommy naps in back in the Poodle Bed. Check out those Mutt Muffs! What's next; an Instrument rating?! And what kind of light aircraft could this be, that enables occupants to change positions in flight? And haul big kitchen stoves around? Stay tuned for more, hopefully not from the NTSB....

Kind of makes it sound like the 747 of the GA fleet doesn't it?? You have peanuts on tap for the passengers?

Snacks are served on any flights of two hours duration or longer. Normally things like summer sausage and cheese (Atkins legal stuff). The ubiquitous 44oz mug of diet iced tea is always within reach for the Greybeard. Mommy and Skye settle for the bottled water. Welcome to Skye Aire....

Hope to see a lot of you at Gaston's! Skye needs more Frisbee and tug-of-war playmates.

Mike, saw your message on arriving at Gastons. Great weather for flying today wasn't it? I went out about 6 and flew till dark getting some practice tonight.

When's dinner tomorrow night?

Anyone else going to need a ride over to Gastons from BPK tomorrow night?

Don't know the answer to either question. Probably won't get an answer until one evolves as we see who shows up on Friday.

We should be in town a little before 6.

Dean has a cabin down on the river, I think he said about 'dusk' so looks like we will be hitting town about the same time. I don't know if Gene is planning for Friday night or Saturday, but seems like I do remember him saying he was definitely planning for the grass this year...

Anyone getting into the area after dark will need to land at BPK and get a ride with me over to gastons or their hotel room. So my cell phone number is (501)281-2967. Cell phones work some down at gastons, not alot.

Great dinner here last night for the Bruce, Sikes, and Rellihan families (fresh-caught trout with all the Gaston's trimmings). Beautiful sun-shiny morning here this AM!
