Flight Levels
The Rough River Committee decided last weekend to have the next East Central Fly-in at French Lick, IN. Fly to French Lick (KFRH) by 11:30am EDT and we will take the shuttle to the Resort. We are going to do something different. The first 10 BAC members to arrive will receive a $10 voucher to use at their discretion at the French Lick Resort. http://www.frenchlick.com/

The French Lick resort is a grand old refurbished hotel. Tall columns, marble floors and stately rooms. Back during his presidency, Franklin D. Roosevelt visited several times for treatment in the mineral springs. There used to be railroad tracks leading to a side entrance that the presidential rail coach could access, but those tracks were removed about 20 years ago. Another interesting factoid......the Bloody Mary was created by a hotel chef many years ago. Just a mile or so down the road in West Baden is a domed hotel that re-opened several years ago. Their dome was a model for the Houston Astrodome when it was built back in the late 50's early 60's and a precursor to all of today's modern domed stadiums. Add in the casino that was built a few years ago and you have a vibrant tourist area nestled into southern Indiana. Although it sounds like I work for the French Lick Chamber of Commerce, I do not. I've just visited there many times.

John, I do plan to attend and hope to see a good turnout on Saturday, the 31st.

P.S. French Lick's true claim to fame.......it is the childhood home of Larry Bird. He began his basketball career at the local high school just across the street from the hotel. It's also where he went back home to work on a garbage truck after realizing he did not want to play college ball for Bobby Knight. After a year of that, he enrolled at Indiana State University and began his trek to the Boston Celtics and his multiple NBA MVP awards. :)

I'm looking forward to being there. There is some talk of rain in the forecast but we'll hope it doesn't prevent a trip.

Is anyone planning on spending the night and traveling on to KGEV Sunday?

Ann and I will be there Saturday. I'm hoping for 1 or 2 more to come from 27K. We won't spend the night, but I do plan to fly to KGEV Sunday morning. So far they're just calling for occasional & sporadic showers late Saturday afternoon. Hopefully it won't be a repeat of Rough River a few weeks ago!

Send the rain to western Nebraska! All time record high for yesterday was 105 F. We were dry before this head and its is worse now.

Record high? 105 F is our June - September norm. Speaking of rain, we are having some right now. Flood watches East of Phoenix. At least there will be no "Haboob" for a week or two. The desert South of us got a good soaking.

Convective activity squarely above and in my track for the next hour, but then clear. Should launch by 10:30 with an arrival between 11:30 & 11:45.

Well the buffet was closed, but the weather delays didn't stop a few of us from making it to French Lick and enjoying lunch at one of the other restaurants. Thanks John for planning it and thanks Tim for making it down.
