After a look at the cars we can have lunch, either at the restaurant 100 yards from the FBO (burgers & chicken) or use the airport van to drive to wherever we want to go. After lunch back to the car show and listen to live music from the Morgan Leigh Band. http://www.morganleighband.com/

Michael-

I would love to hear your flight plan to KUDD. The elevations that you encounter and the potential for turbulence come to my mind when I look at your potential route of flight. I suspect you stop at Twenty Nine Palms for fuel before KUDD, right? Do you make a fuel stop in between?

Chris,

Here is the basic "done this 20 times" route. https://skyvector.com/?ll=36.985003...om=10&fpl=N0090 KEGE KRIL PATUC KPGA TBC KUDD

I get out of Eagle with fuel only to the tabs or maybe the slots, have to get to 10,000 quickly to get over the pass 10 miles out (yes, I've had to circle for altitude before going over the pass). KRIL is aobut 20 minutes out, good SS fuel stop but prices higher than home. Still easy climb from there, puts me lower over Moab and the Canyonlands, then cruise at 8,500 or 9,500 (withing 2k of ground) to Page AZ (KPGA). Fuel up there, then no stops all the way to KUDD. If it weren't for my first pass to get over and I could fuel up at home I could do it all in one fuel stop. I can come home on one fuel stop but the winds are following me then.

I don't fuel at 29 Palms, I buy at KUDD. Yes higher but it is a private airport, no public/government funds and fuel has to support everything. Every employee's paycheck and boots, every runway light bulb and all the asphalt that a tenant FBO at a government airport doesn't have to pay for. Public line is I support this and other private airports, I've learned way too much about private airports in the last 4 years to say anything negative about any of them and their prices. Rant over.

Winds are always head on going southwest. I leave early morning to avoid/mitigate turbulence (heck its a 6 hour flight day anyway). In winter it is not much of a worry and once in summer my better half learned why we should leave early, July going into Vegas at 2:00 pm was bumpy.

I've gone over the Grand Canyon a number of times, but now I'm over that. Too many yokels plus tour plans and you have to be above 10,000 which is a push after a fuel stop at Page.

All in all it is a great flight. Think I'll go to Santa Monica to just land there once before they shorten and then close it.

Michael,

How do you go southwest? I have looked for a route from Salida to Eagle .... geez .... almost better to drive!

Best route from Salida to Eagle is to follow the Arkansas river to Buena Vista, Leadville, through Tennessee Pass to Red Cliff and Minturn then follow I-70 to Eagle. In Colorado IFR stand for I Follow Rivers.

Dave's route is what I suggest too, but Dave is just faster flying it than I can be.

Show was great, only a few planes (but they did nice low fly-by's), lots of cars and a great day.

Unusual tailwinds going SW, averaged 140 knots to Page then 130 knots rest of the way. And smooth hand free flying.

Will likely do 90 knots on the way bac unless winds change.

Flew to Springfield, MO today from Pottstown, PA. I actually saw ground speeds at 50 knots at 4500 feet west of French Lick, KY. It was awful! Higher altitudes were worse... I won't talk about the turbulence... It was awful too... I had a very enjoyable flight from Parkersburg, WV to French Lick, KY.
