Fall 2010 Bahamas trip anyone?

Headed to Andromeda
Hurricane season ends when November starts. Anyone interested in an out island run early Nov? I am thinking about Southern Andros or Eleuthera for some relaxation, Snorkeling and fishing. Open for ideas or requests for locations.

How about the Florida Keys? Don't have to go through all that eAPISS and customs stuff. Can't be any more expensive.

My Bride would go for either destination.

Not sure about November with 08Romeo going in for Annual and having to let the flying/play money account recoup after a possible BAC Fest to San Antonio in October.

To many fun trips, not enough $ or time!!

Would like to do something again. Would probably lean towards the Keys ( have't been there yet). Leet me know.

I am open to joining a Keys trip if someone wants to do some planning. My goal is to spend some time in one of the more remote islands and getting away from the hustle and bustle of most of my usaul days. I do not know if the Keys offers this.
Our last trip was to a fairly developed island to meet last year's group request. This time we can pick something with more of a Bahamian feel. I tend to like some place close to an airport so we can make some day trips to other islands.
Emerald Palms, Andros?
Staniel Cay?
Cat Island?

Paul: I just got back from Green Turtle Cay. Had a great time. Your article was very helpful for the planning part. I had no surprises either way. Eapis and customs was really no big deal. Skype and a marine radio takes care of any lack of communication where we were. Thanks again for the great tips. Tom

I appreciate the feedback Tom. And glad you had such a fun time. Still investigating some new options. Anyone have any Florida Keys suggestions? No reason except time and money we can't do both! I am still thinking early November if weather works. I will miss the summer by then.

I would love to do this some day but being in San Diego it's not on in the cards. Although maybe nosing around some Baja trips next year - after we get a 406MHz ELT (having just replaced the ELT battery we no longer qualify for the Mexican 121 MHz exemption).

I'll throw a date out there to get things going. What about Nov. 11-14th ish? This would be a Thursday throught Sunday? Not as many days off work. Something like that? Keys a couple of days and Bahamas a few days into for the ones that wanted to go (I would go, just want to do Keys as well). Would help find a place in Keys If needed.

I just read something awhile back about the Keys having an outbreak of Dengue fever. Doesn't sound like I want to go there. The wife's birthday is 9 November. She's undecided on where she want's to go. I know it won't be more than 5 hours of flight time from KCHD (cardinal rule of wife flying #3). So, mid-November is out for me.

Maybe I don't want to go there! And Marty, get that plane "tuned up" you can get her there.

As to the Dengue fever, it is limited to Key West and mostly has infected only a few locals who are out 24/7 with mosquitos. There are really only 2 airports in the keys that are not private, Key West and Marathon, so it really depends upon whether you want to be in the southern keys or the middle/northern keys. Both have fuel so that is not a big issue. If it is Key West, I may have some connections to get discounts for fuel and tiedowns but I really have nothing in Marathon. Finally, Fantasy Fest will be sometime right around Halloween and 1) it is too late to try and make accommodation requests and 2) you had better not take your wives, and take your amnesia pills if you plan on going. Went last year and it was beyond strange. I checked it off the bucket list and feel no need to return. The good news is that this seems to be the official end of summer, all the tourists go home, and the island quiets down a little (as much as Key West can at least).

I am leaning toward Long Island sometime around the end of November. Never been there and it is a pretty well known place to fly in. I also have a friend with a private place on crooked Island but that one is remote. Probably bring in food etc remote. So I am leaning more toward mildly remote. More adventurous than Treasure Cay but closer than Crooked and with restaurant options.
