Death Valley Fly-in

Guys I have had my prop off the plane since the Beginning of Feb. I sent it off to Oaklahoma for a 500 hour inspection. I received a call yesterday and was informed the prop was in great shape. (Good news as they are hard to find and expensive) However, I also learned and informed Marty that I will not receive it back in time to reinstall it, complete a maintenance flight and make it to the fly in. I apologize for dropping the ball on my duty as the RD. Marty will still be able to pick up lunch and dinner from the club for this event.

I apologize to all the members that will be arriving on the 4th. I procrastinated getting the hotel room and no rooms are available on the 4th. However, I will be there on the 5th and will be hosting a late lunch at the restaurant. Later in the evening for those who RON (remain over night) I (BAC) will host dinner. I'm not sure what the turn out will be as there haven't been a lot of commitments posted. But it should be a fun day/evening even if just that.

See you there on the 5th.

I just found out that Death Valley may have a rare "super bloom" of desert flowers. It has already started in the Southeast portion of the park. Hopefully it will spread to the other areas by the time of the fly-in.

Looks like we will miss the super bloom and the fly-in.......no room to be had. Have fun, fly safely and enjoy!

PS-I might do a "down and back" on Saturday. Exploring that possibility. It is a 3.5 hour trip (one-way) in the Sierra.

Sorry Marty,

Tried hard but can't make it in the schedule. Saw the beginning of the wild flower season in the Central California Valleys last weekend. Should be spectacular. Send pictures.

Chris, I have reservation for Friday and Saturday night. I will make a go/no-go decision on Wednesday based on projected winds over the passes in CO. If I decide it's no-go, do you want me to let you know so that you might be able to grab my reservation?

Well, it looks like Mother Nature isn't cooperating. There is a Pacific storm heading to California on to Arizona this weekend. While not a heavy storm, the terrain surrounding Stovepipe Wells would make for some difficult navigation if the cloud cover is low. I'm going to cancel my hotel reservations as there is a 48 hour cancellation policy. Hopefully we can re-schedule for another time before the real heat arrives in the desert. Hopefully the next time will have better weather in the Southwest and we can all get together soon.

I just finished up my annual this week, so I'm looking forward to joining you. Maybe the weather will settle down in a week or two.

Janet and I were there for the weekend. The SuperBloom was everything it was talked up to be! For those that are used to the sterile, desolate norm for Death Valley, this was truly an amazing experience.

Apparently it only comes around once every 15 years or so.

All the best, James
