Christmas at KLUX 12-13-08 ride possible?

Level Cruise
Anyone heading to this passing near to Savannah (KSAV) and need some ballast? I'd love to go and meet some of you, and would be happy to contribute to your fuel fund to get there.

..Joe

PS: The airports in lower South Carolina (Barnwell- BNL & Allendale- 88J) have the cheapest AvGas in the area- $3.60/gallon.

Just a bump for this coming Saturday. If you plan to join us, please chime in here. It will help me plan for the chow. Right now I am hoping that the weather West of us will have passed through by Saturday; that's the prediction at the moment. While some advance work is going on already, Monty nd I are planning to do the major clean-up, decorating, and set-up on Friday afternoon. I have some propane radiant heat as well as a propane Reddy-Heater to take the edge off any chill.

Right now I am planning premium burgers and wieners/sausages on the hangar grill, with all the trimmings. Maybe some shrimp cocktail appetizers, along with the usual nut and chip trays. Plenty of dessert on tap. I'm sure we will also have some door prizes for those hardy souls who brave what passes for winter flying down here.... Drive or fly, all are welcome!

If the weather holds out I plan on arriving Friday with a departure Sunday. N18859 misses KLUX. :)

See ya then...
Doug

Mike,

We would love to be there, but I am completing a project that will extend into Saturday I think. The way business is right now, the boss (Holly) says I'd better get this job completed and billed.

If anything changes, we'll let you know.

I'm planning on it ! Weather has to be hard IFR at my airport so I can't get BACK to stop me.

Sorry Doug, but the old parts have been thrown away, it's old spot in the hangar is taken by another plane, and you only get one New Data plate per decade (no exceptions)......, and once it left the first time, a return trip does not pad the record for the longest stay at the KLUX... or then again, it might like our airfield better and might want to come "home" for Christmas....

Be glad to see you and everyone else who can make it this time....Enjoy the flight up if you can make it and fly safe....

Tried to bum a ride out but no joy, have a great Christmas party. Still plane-less and will most likely stay this way till summer.

Craig T.

Wish I could be there but I'm committed to a trip to the 'left' coast already. In fact we leave today and get back Sunday. Everyone have a good time and don't over-consume anything.....

Merry Christmas all and fly safely!
Chris L.

You could accidently fly the other left and only upon entering the KLUX pattern, you could honestly say "I knew I should of turned left at Alberqukey".....

Have a safe flight, and enjoy the time...

Monty

Well, wife just gave me change of plans and I will not make it. We are going to the Mountains (SPARTA) to cut a xmas tree. Was SUPPOSED to do this on Sunday but I guess she has something else planned for Sunday!

Darn!
BILL

It looks like I am going to no-show also. A few minor, but time consuming maintenance issues have come up that I need to deal with before my upcoming Bahamas trip.
Happy Holidays! See you in February for my annual.

I'm going to try to make it. Would an oil-change be out of line? I'd like to switch to 80W for the winter...

Don

Come on Don and bring the oil. We have two planes at LUX now. Decorations are up and grill is ready. Mike decorated a beautiful tree in the hangar that all must see.

Weather is going to perfect tomorrow and the hangar has lots of heaters. Can't wait to see a ramp full tomorrow.

Doug

Jim Spencer has declared a fuel price of $4/gallon for the Club on Saturday. They can't do any better; that's unfortunately their cost on this tank-load. They have not yet had sufficient fuel sales to thin down the remaining fuel with a newer lower-cost load.

Loads of door prizes tomorrow, along with shrimp cocktail, burgers, dogs, chips and other snacks, desserts, etc.!

Have a great day. I'll be thinking about all y'all when I'm flying...

I'll be within a hundred miles, but my teacher doesn't allow me to fly to any airport we haven't gone to together first, otherwise I'd X-C up to the fly-in.

I'm glad your instructor is cautions, Joe. Might want to request an exception, in this case! Pretty flat around here, and nothing tricky about the field or its approaches. Pretty much in the middle of nowhere, next to Small Town USA. Sort of a shame to be within 100 miles in an airplane, and not be able to make it here.

The day is dawning severe clear outside, and zero wind so far. The back yard says that it is 27 degrees. The bright sun will warm up those cockpits; and we have plenty of propane and electric heat for the seating area in the hangar! Everything is ready; I'll be warming up the grill at around 1100, and cooking will commence around Noon. Folks are welcome here at any time. I should make it to the hangar by around 0900; gotta stop for one forgotten item.

And a great time was had by all! Even the grill cook who was running ragged.... The final head count was 20 people, including us locals! Two based planes plus five more newly parked on the ramp.

The BAC SE Banner was on display, right next to the inflatable airplane containing Santa Claus, with the spinning prop! I am leaving most of the interior decorations up until after New Year's Day.

Shrimp cocktail, various chips and dips, various nuts, two kinds of tater salad, various kinds of pickles and relishes, grilled burgers, grilled kielbasa sausage, grilled smoked sausage, buns, condiments, lots of various sweets for dessert (including a giant Christmas chocolate-chip cookie), and various drinks in the well-stocked fridge. Many folks went home with at least one big chocolate Santa in its box. Even candy canes on the tree for the kids of all ages.

Started off cool outside, but we had tons of heat in the hangar seating area. Thanks in part to Doug Muse, who donated a brand-new pedestal-mounted electric radiant heater. It looks like the big propane patio heaters, but is electric and on a smaller scale. Its design allows it to be placed in the center of the seating area, where all enjoyed it. We had the propane radiant heaters going on the perimeter of the seating, so everyone stayed warm both front and back. I had all the metal chairs covered with fabric, to help keep out the chill.

It became warm enough in the bright sun for a lot of outside maintenance activities. Mark Jones replaced his cowling Camlocs; Don Poitras did an oil and filter change; Doug Muse did some minor repairs; Norton and Kim repaired their fuel filler caps; Randy Martin repaired some door handles; and more. Best fly-in day we've had in a long time, all the way around. Everyone received a door prize, an item of their choice, from under the Christmas tree (tie downs, LED mini-lights, LED rechargeable work lites, filler cap kits).
