We will join the VA/NC Pilots Assoc and Fly-In to Cape Hatteras' Billy Mitchell Airport (KHSE) on May 2 at noon. The beach is within walking distance and we will arrange some way to get to the lighthouse for those that are interested. Also, you may leave that afternoon or camp out on the beach. The campground is in easy walking distance of the airport. I will bring my "Compound." This consists of an Easy Up tent, sleeping tent, camp chairs, table and grill. (yes, it will all fit in the plane!) We will grill out for dinner so bring whatever you want to throw on the grill and your favorite beverages. I will post more about camping reservations as they are firmed up.

Mary and I have it on the calendar. There is noway she is camping! not happening! I'm checking for local rooms so we can overnight then take off the following morning.

Her exact quotes were....."I'm not sleeping with any bugs and cabins do count as camping since there is no 24 hr room service" My princess......she cracks me up.

Mary and I are thinking about spending a few days in Nags Head and coming to Billy Mitchell for the day then heading back to Nags Head. We stay at the Surfside, always great service and clean rooms. http://www.surfsideobx.com/

Here is what I found near Billy Mitchell Field.

This should be a great trip! For me this is close enough to be my frequent lunch run. I will see what is on my schedule if I successfully complete my current snowboarding trip in the Alps.

I have camped at the park next to the billy Mitchell airport, nice park. Shower is a good place to cool off on a hot summer day. :)

I booked a campsite. Hope my plane is ready. See you there. Anyone that is staying in Nags Head I can book a great pizza dinner there!

Anyone know if we can have our dog on the beach? It looks like its permitted with a leash requirement but we wanted to make sure before we head south.

From the US Gov website: Pets must be restrained or on a leash at all times while in developed recreation areas. Looks like you're a go!

So I've got me, Gary, Paul and Donald flying in for camping with Persinger possibly flying in for the afternoon. Is this correct? Is there anyone else or is anyone listed not coming?

No camping for the Mascelli's. Might head to nags head for an overnight, if not we will be heading home in the afternoon.

I was wanting to make my first appearance at a club fly in. But I don't like gusty crosswinds and if I am reading the forecast right it looks like that may be the case. I missed Luray because of a leaking fuel sender gasket. I topped it off the night before and had a small pond the next morning. The O-rings around the screws dried out and cracked. I will check the weather again in the morning. David Robertson musketeer 1498l

I am still in. If it helps planning, the airport is obstruction free. Near the beach with a slight berm to the west. I had thought weather looked good, will check again.

Mary and I decided to stay local for a breakfast run. Temps to chilly to be on the beach with those winds.
