Although we’re still a few months away from BACFest 2017 in New Bedford, MA, the club’s Board of Directors is now seeking a member willing to host BACFest 2018. Many of the early editions of BACFest were hosted from afar; however, the past few years a lead volunteer has stepped forward to host the event near their hometown (PaulWerbin in Virginia Beach, Denis Weiser in Dubuque, Chris Nowak in Branson and Tom Corcoran in New Bedford). Having boots on the ground not only avails us to local knowledge but also allows for more efficient implementation. If you have an interest in hosting in 2018, please respond to this forum, or for additional information, you may contact me at [email protected].

This is a solicitation for a member willing to host the event, not an open invitation to merely throw out suggested locations. If you’re willing to host the event, there are ample resources available within the club to assist you. The desire is to have initial planning in place so a presentation of the location can be made in September in New Bedford.

The club appreciates your willingness to support the largest event on the BAC Calendar.

YOU should really think seriously about hosting a BACFest. The experience is ultimately very rewarding. It may even be FUN!

The Board of Directors wisely wishes to make the location decision at the May Directors meeting. That's good and here is why:

In March of 2016 they selected my proposal of New Bedford, Massachusetts. This gave me time until the announcement in September in Branson to get some of the details arranged. Then it's another year to get details perfected. So there is plenty of time if you volunteer.

You need to get a friendly airport FBO, a friendly hotel that will hold a big block of rooms and find restaurants that can accommodate a 100 people all at once. We have function planning professionals in the club. They will guide you if asked.

BACFest has morphed into a real vacation destination for many members. This means you should have plenty of local attractions within 75 miles for them to enjoy outside the core Fest days. I have enjoyed finding attractions for New Bedford. Of some of these I only recently became aware.

Lastly, the almost 18 month lead time gives you buying power at many venues and you get first dibs over the weddings with which you will be competing for space. This leisurely pace puts fun and flexibility in your planning. AND... the Board of Directors will authorize an adequate budget and give you lots of help and FULL leeway to make your plans. I am enjoying the planning experience. Nobody is interfering.

Your local airport and geographic area is probably perfect for BACFest 2018. I offer my help to assist you in deciding. [email protected]

I agree with Tom. I had a lot of fun producing a BACFest. Brad and others were a great help and the lead time made it easier too. This is a great way to show off your favorite places!
