BACFest 2016

I like Asheville! Airport is out a little way from downtown. Side benefit, Marty is missing NC on his map.

Should I bring the git-fiddle? Nah, haven't done any flat picking for years. Probably should just leave it at home. The swinette is just too much trouble to travel with. Even the alto version.

Put me down. My problem is I'm not a promoter/organizer. My ideal of a vacation is hiking off in to the Smokies and not seeing anyone for a week or more. I'll figure It out.

After 4 days or so I come across some of the best conversation. Around day 6 or 7 I realize I'm still alone.

Just an idea,

Although I'm in Seattle and not able to do much to help in the potential planning - Asheville, I can offer some calls and work in gaining a fly-out to Mountain Air CC. I'm an owner and can invite guest. 2NC0 is located about 30 nm from AVL. It could be a fly-in/lunch type event.

Sounds like a plan there.

BAC Fest 2016 In Ashville I'll do it , with help of course.

Maybe even have a mountain flying seminar for us flat landers and get one of our CFI's to take those that want a little one on one instruction out and hit some of them strips up in the hills there. There is plenty to do in that area.

That's good, hate to have the pressure of a ten year anniversary on my shoulders. Been there done that and my wife has the plaque to show for it. It's hanging on the wall in our bedroom.

It is about time for another Bahamas BAC flyin. I will start a new thread for a spring Bahamas trip and see what interest there might be.

Paul,
Per the Spring Bahamas Trip, I will host something for a stop over in St. Augustine (KSGJ). Your thoughts?
Dave

I'll second Vegas. Plenty of activities (even if you don't donate to the casino's), the lake, the dam, etc. Easy to get to even if not flying in BAC style. Looks like BAC has only been west of the Continental Divide twice in all years...

San Diego? It's on our list to see.

Actually when we saw Vegas posted we both looked at each other and said fly ourselves then head west to do the coast before heading back to the right coast.

Vegas is probably easy to fly commercially from anywhere in the U.S. And a pretty wide variety of price levels. Grand Canyon is a nice trip from there.

Ashville NC for BAC Fest 2016
This is my preliminary proposal for BAC Fest 2016. If BAC decides to make Asheville our 2016 BAC Fest location I will get started immediately on dialing in the events, times and cost. With a lot of help from our BAC ranks of course.

1. Our base airport will be Asheville Regional(KAVL) hosting FBO Landmark Aviation. They said they could accommodate us if we come before the fall festival, when ramp space is at a premium.
· Scheduled commercial flights
· No tie down fee’s
· Fuel discount for us, current fuel price is $4.66 off the truck.
· Hanger space for our maintenance clinic.

2.
We have some good economically priced hotels with good ratings all about 5 min. form the airport. I haven’t talked to these about conference room availability or discount pricing.

· Clarion Inn $127 a night none discounted price with a 3.5 rating.
· Hampton Inn $130 a night none discounted price with a 3.9 rating.
· Comfort Inn $96 a night none discounted price with a 3.4 rating.
· Econo Lodge $80 a night none discounted price with a 3.9 rating.

3.
Attractions: The only drawback is the leaves will be just starting to change. We will miss the Autumn leaf festival by two to three weeks.

· The Biltmore Estate is the premiere attraction in Ashville.
· There are over forty festivals going on in the area. From late September through out October.
· Outlet malls
· Many micro-breweries
· Art museums
· A down town with almost a small town feel.
· Most of all, “The Application Mountains”.

4.
Fly out locations: There are quite a few small airports within an hour flight of KAVL.

· Ashe County airport 45 min. north east with lunch at Shatley Springs Inn. Probably the best fried chicken around. With very low fuel prices $4.30 currently.
· We could hold a poker run and hit as many airports as we want. There are over 20 airports that we can fly out to and not be more than an hour from our base (KAVL).

Thank you for considering beautiful Western North Carolina and I'm sorry I won't be in Dubuque to present this in person.
