BACFest 2014 - Planning

I'd let you fly a leg or two in my Sierra. We should plan on a local flight during BAC Fest. Maybe do a 20kt ground speed approach and landing at Hood River. Perhaps a flight to McMinnville for a case or so of wine? Stop off at the museum there and deposit some DNA in the Spruce Goose?

Marty and John, I'd consider splitting some costs travelling to Bac Fest, I've done it a couple of times now with Dean.

I don't know how soon I can commit, but I am working on making it happen, if that helps y'all's planning...

Update -

Over the weekend Hilton approved and posted our registration page:

NOTE: This is a block of rooms and rooms are limited. Rates are first-come, first-serve basis. The $119.00 is for the first:

Weds 9/17: 5 rooms registered
Thurs 9/18: 10 rooms registered
Fri 9/19: 15 rooms registered
Sat 9/20: 15 rooms registered

After that, the rate increases to $139 per room for the remainder of the rooms in the block. Please register for your room ASAP!

If you are more comfortable with calling in, call the hotel directly, and ask to be transferred to the reservations department. Mrs. Rickie Derrey is head of reservations at the hotel. The hotel’s direct line is +1 360 993 4500.

I just registered using the link. It made it very easy. I plan on arriving Tuesday 9/16 and departing on Sunday 9/21. Scott their cancellation policy is 3 days prior to arrival.
 
Tried the link. It shows the only rooms available at the BAC rate are doubles. Is there a way to get a single with a King bed?
 
I called the hotel to book yesterday (Tuesday 8th) and I was offered a BAC room with a king bed.

(A guy in India did the transaction) 360 993-4500 Attempts a lot of add-ons.

btw... Got a non-stop flight from Boston to Seattle for $182 on JetBlue. I am renting a car to get to/from Vancouver WA.

We do have a block of rooms and we contracted for two doubles in each, but some of the $139 a night rooms do have a King. If you are able to call in and get the $119 a night rate for the King, then I say call in like Tom.

More than half of the rooms are now reserved, so if you are considering coming to BACFest don't hesitate to get your room.

In the news... Anyone see in AOPA Pilot magazine this month? Looks like there is some debate about the hosting airfield for BACFest and if it really is the oldest operating airfield in the U.S:

What is this College Park they speak of, anyone fly-in there ever? I was reassured by Laureano Mier that Pearson Airfield is the oldest, he will be explaining all of this to us at BACFest.

I hope we all get up flying real soon for a fun and safe flight!
 
College Park Airfield is about 15 miles from where I grew up in MD. I wasn't flying then, but I remember an elementary school field trip to the airfield where we were told it had been in continuous operation since 1909 when it opened as a military flying school and wasn't ever restricted from general and commercial flying. According to the AOPA article, Pearson had a dirigible land there in 1905, but no airplanes until 1911.
It dosesn't matter much to me. Both have been in existance longer than I have.
 
Jon - better take my name off...I originally believed the event in Portland was in August, and planned accordingly. We can't make it in September.

Everyone should at some point see some Oregon waterfalls. I'm so glad you pointed this out, Multnomah is easy to access from the highway and there is no hike required. Oregon is home to 238 waterfalls, here's 7 more Travel Oregon featured:

What's even cooler is seeing Multnomah Falls from the air, as they are in the Gorge and are readily visible. Quite a sight to see!

So fly out here for BACFest and either see them from the air or drive to them.

If you fly out to our WAAAM fly-in June 7th, make a point to fly by the falls, it's melt season :-)
