BAC to BAF Fly-In

Hey everyone within range!
We are about a month out from my annual Up The Tax Man event at Barnes Field, Westfield MA (BAF).

Check the calendar for some details, but we will rally the rodents at BAF on April 11th.

As usual, we will test our MTOW by stuffing participants with food. Not sure if it will be cook out at Five Star Jet Center or in the Runway Restaurant. This will depend on participation.

More info to come, but we expect good weather...as I am no longer the N.E.R.D.! 8)
(But, Paul, you are invited anyway. :P )

Bob,
It should get better! Now that I have ascended the Olympian heights I am learning to hurl lightning bolts onto mere mortals such as you. Controlling weather and fates.

Only...they're hard to control. They can bounce back on one.

Landed Saturday and my pilot side door handle came out of the door, bounced on the wing and required searching along the taxiway.

Found it but I may need a new one. Oh well, back to the door lock strings for research. Kamran, expect a call!

Gee Steve...you will have to start making smoother landings. Good luck with the fly in!

Why start now? Keep those donuts supple by keeping them in a state of fear.

Charlie,
You gonna suprise me by showing up at this one?

Charlie,

I have no business posting on this thread...........BUT, talking about the donuts made me laugh my butt off!!!! I have had around 20 landings in my Mouse, and I'm positive that the airplane is scared to h3ll with what is about to happen!!! I'm sure my donuts are 'supple'.

Thanks for the laugh!!!! (although D'Artanian, the Musketeer, isn't laughing)

Well, Steve, normally I'd say I wouldn't miss it -- but, as it happens, Son-of-a-Beech is out of annual! I *hope* I can get it back in license in time. MA is too far to walk. (I'm in CA at the moment; home in a week, and then I start to work...)

It is apparent that I cannot read calendars.
Someone pointed out to me that the date of the BAF Fly-In is the day before Easter.
While this may be an issue for some would be attendees, I think I will keep the 11th as the date; partially because I won't be available for weeks afterward.

So I renew the invite: Come on down (up?) to Barnes, Westfield (BAF) on April 11th and do some jawin' and fibbin' and get some food.
Check the BAC Calendar for details.

Hmm, seems the Weather Curse is not lifted!
Forecast for Saturday's BAC to BAF Fly-In calls for showers throughout the day (40% worth anyway).

But I am still planning on the event...for whoever can make it in. Lunch will be at the Runway Restaurant on field and is on BAC.

Upon arrival overhead, tell the tower you are here for the Beech Fly-In and they will direct you to our parking area. (This will be at Taxiway A-1, for those interested.)

Now I don't want anyone to outreach their own abilities. So use your best judgement on this. If you are coming in and conditions are sketchy, BAF does have an ILS on Runway 20. The two runways are 2 miles (02/20) and 1 mile (15/33) so there is plenty of asphalt to fly over before you plop down.

If driving in, park at the terminal and walk to your left to Five Star Jet Center. They will call me, if I am not already in their space.

Be careful but hope to see you there,

Steve, it seems I am at least a week away from completing my Annual Agony, so I'm afraid I won't be making it to BAF. However, I'll be with you in spirit! Please take lots of pictures, and send them to Rick for inclusion in BACTalk.
Have a great fly-in. Sorry I can't make it.
Safe skies,
Paul

NO! No spirits! We fly sober...(er, what? OH!) Sorry, we'll miss you. Good luck on the Annual. (Are you running your own Stimulus Package with this?)

I'm going to try to make it, if weather permits. As of Wednesday night "A chance of rain, mainly before 11am. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 50."

See you around noon!

My plan is to file IFR and "follow roads" to Barnes. I'll dust off my low altitude charts, freshen up the 430 database, get new terminal procedures and look for the rosary beads.

Oh yes, I am rated, equipped and qualified... but Bradley Approach has me on their watch list.

Look for N5162M about noon. If you're buying Steve, I'm eatin'.

Tom, I thought it was the Mass. Turnpike Authority that had suspended the EZPass you have on the plane. Something about flying too fast through the toll booths?

And, Rich, we'll keep a light on for you!

OK, forecast is still changing. But it looks to be improving by mid-morning.
We're still on...I may push lunch a little to allow for later arrivals.
I will be monitoring ground (121.7) for arrivals. Tower will direct you to our parking. If we are not at the site of the planes and banner, call me on my cell (413-531-1938)

We pulled it off! :D

Despite intermittent rain, the BAC to BAF event happened.
We had 6 people in 4 airplanes from 4 states. Doug Melville and Larry (from Simsbury CT, snuck through the BDL Class Charlie fence to come upriver to BAF.
Carlos Vares braved the ice pellets to come up from Providence RI. And Steve Murray took a big chunk out of the President's Trophy by coming over 200 miles from Rochester NY.
And...my wife came! (Alright, you know I love her...but this is an unusual occurrence.)

Thanks to all who came (they all made it home). And those who couldn't make it, don't feel bad. The Wx sucked, you probably made the right choice. 8)
