BAC at Oshkosh 2012

Around The Moon
I'm sorry to have to say Larry and Debbie Last will not be able to host the picnic on the flightline this year. Larry is in training to fly a Citation and his son is getting married right after AirVenture, so they are really busy this year.

We are still working on putting something together though, so stay tuned. Hopefully we will have additional info within the week.

Sam Cryer has offered to host us at AirVenture this year! Details are still being worked out but here is the general idea. We will probably get Sam's grill going with burgers and brats or hot dogs as well as having a supply of beverages. The cook-out will be held at Sam's camper, which will be in the Warbirds camping area. In keeping with tradition, it will be on Tuesday afternoon July 24th. As always, spouses and friends are invited, and there will be no charge.

As this is a late start and a bit more informal than the BAC picnic, we will not ask for a pre-registration fee to be returned to you upon arrival, like we did in years past.

Stay tuned for more details as they get firmed up.

Also, please let us know on this thread if you plan on attending and how many in your party. Sam needs to know how much food and drink to get!

Sounds great...I'll be there. You can't miss me...I'll be the one with the binoculars and digital camera looking up in the air when an airplane passes overhead. Might even have a yellow Trade-a-Plane plastic bag with various things in it (sunscreen, wide brim hat, water bottle, daily show paper, etc.) Looking forward to it!

I'll try to get a map of the exact location to put online. In any case, we'll have a BAC banner flying!!!

Hi there,
I'm new to the BAC, so forgive my ignorance.
I just purchased a 78 Sundowner, and will be bringing it home to Chicago from Sacramento as soon as it finishes it's Annual as part of the sale.
I'm planning on going to Oshkosh (I'm only a few hrs south..)
Can you give me a synopsis of what Beech/BAC festitivites are where/when?

thanks
Henry

The only activity so far is the cook-out on Tuesday afternoon. I know it's at Sam Cryer's camper in the Warbirds camping area, but so far I do not have a map of the exact site. I will post it as soon as I can.

Welcome to BAC, Henry! I'm based in Waukesha, WI (KUES), just West of Milwaukee. Where will your Sundowner be based?

If you are looking for an A&P in this area, Sam is BAC member and A&P, also based in Waukesha. He flies a Musketeer.

Why thank you, Bob!
Guess I'll make Tuesday my Oshkosh day (only have time to take off one day during the week, regrettably)
S/B picking up N23830 in a few weeks, and basing at Palwaukee (aka "Chicago EXECUTIVE"). I'm on a short wait list for a hangar, tie down in the interim. I'll put Sam on my list, does he have an eMail?

Oh, and I'd appreciate your opinion on a new website I started (I do computer software for a living anyhow, so...). It's www.HangarBuddies.com and it's basically a 'community bulletin board' for locals to swap suggestions, locate $100 pancake and hamburger spots, upcoming FAAst seminars and the like. I found that there's a bit of "Well, if I don't have my own plane and I don't want to go to the airport to plop down $100+ to fly to 'somewhere', then what's the point of being 'in GA' ???". So this is kind of a community-building idea/site. Like 'share a ride' to a Fly-In (get company, split expenses, have a reason to get in the air... etc).

In fact, here's an idea I'd like to bounce off of you:
HangarBuddies will sponsor a "Find the Best 1- or 2-day getaway spot" contest. First prize is $200, 2nd is $100, 3rd is $50. You post your first-person evaluation of a spot (with pictures!) on the Hangar Buddies website, and at the end of the (2 month?) contest period, all the members vote for their favorite to determine 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. This give people a reason to go flying, and readers/lurkers some ideas other than "No place to go but fly around in the pattern for an hour...". Thoughts, ideas, suggestions?
I can spot the $350 prize money as my contribution to GA, and maybe offer $50 sponsorship/advertising to local FBO/Mechanics/Schools to defray the cost and get them to put a pound of flesh into the game.

What do you think?

Oh, and how do you get those cool maps into your signature line????

BTW, my picture doesn't appear either - even though I've uploaded it and it show quit nicely in 'My Settings'.
Suggestions?

Been away from the website a few days. Looks like we are getting some responses to the cook-out. I'll get together a list soon so I can keep track of the number of attendees.

I talked with our host about the location. He will be in the first few rows on the East side of the Warbirds campground, which doesn't appear to be overwhelmingly large (not like the north 40!!), so with the BAC banner flying, it should be easy to find. It is on the north end of the AirVenture grounds, and it appears the RED tram line will take you there. I'm looking at the 2011 map, so things could change a bit.

More soon...

We're planning to fly in Thursday, possibly Wednesday, so will miss the cook-out, but hope to find some of you still around. First time there, so what is the chance of being sent away for no parking? Is early or mid-morning a good time to arrive and find GA parking available?

It's been a busy few weeks for me, but here is the latest info on the cook-out.

We'll start at 2:00PM on Tuesday the 24th at Sam's camper in the Warbirds camsite. Both Sam and I have to work in the AM, so the 2:00PM start time.

We'll supply the food and beverages. We might be in short supply of chairs, but I'm not sure how easy it would be for you to bring your own, so we'll get by. Just show up and if you can bring a folding chair, great.

If you plan on coming, please post here soon so we have an idea of how much food and drink to get. I'd like to get a final count in the next few days. So far I count 16 attendees according to the posts here.

Bob, I will be there on Tuesday. Put me down for one. I will be arriving on Sunday and departing on Friday.

Wow have I ever been out of it here.....I am looking forward to having everyone come up to Warbirds and have a cookout! This will definately be les formal than at Larry's, but at least we will all still be able to hang out together!

I will provide adult beverages and a short list of sodas. If you require anything special, let me know. At this point a phone call may be better as I am quite busy wrapping things up at the shop and getting ready to head up tomorrow. I plan to take along a bunch of camp chairs and if anyone needsd relief from the heat, my home (aka camper) is very air conditioned.

If you are familiar with the north side of AirVenture, my camper is set at Warbirds campground and is basically across the street from P-51 parking. If you walk out of Warbirds on Knapp street to the west, you will walk directly into the campground. My camper will have the BAC banner on it and I also have my "yard" surrounded by taxi lights.

If you get lost just call and we'll guide you in. My cell is 262-949-1243.

If the guy at the entrance tries to stop you, tell him you are an invited guest of Sam Cryer. (plus a little payoff may help) LOL! :)

See you all soon!!
Sam
