AOPA Summit 2010

logo1.gifThere's always a good group that show up for AOPA Summit (formerly known as AOPA Expo) so organizing a real fly-in for this. This fly-in is a bit atypical as it's not a quick in and out - most come for the whole day or even two.

I'm setting the date for Saturday the last day of the Expo but please comment or post here if you will be attending at all. In past year there has usually been an informal happy hour somewhere on the Friday evening as well.

Exact time and location TBD. Tentatively Long Beach (KLGB) although we'll probably arrange to meet at the Expo itself not on field. If KLGB fills or the coast looks to not be VFR we'll see what AOPA posts for alternate fields and shuttles. There will be shuttles from KLGB to the convention center.

Arrival procedure will be at http://www.aopa.org/summit/planning.html#flyingtosummit but hasn't been posted yet.

See you all in Long Beach!!!!

Mark-
LeeAnne and I will be there. We are staying in Huntington Beach. Will PM you with arrival and hotel details.

Drinks on Fri sound great to me :) I believe there is a pancake breakfast at the field on Sat, so maybe we can hit that, check out the planes and find a decent place for lunch...

I registered for AOPA today. Wow what an eye opener. 220 bucks for three days wasn't bad but, the 150 Per person dinners I think are a little over priced. I'm bringing Bruce Watts with me. We haven't decided on the hotel yet.

Amen Bob, serious sticker shock. I did see the breakfast - that at least is affordable ($10 I think). Depending on Wx and timing I might drive up, fly up or take the train. I'll only fly if there is still room at KLGB. There's no point in flying and ending up 50 miles from the convention center when I'm only 60 miles here at the house in Carlsbad...

Yep, they are basically saying that it's geared towards elite folks only, common folks just go on your own somewhere else in the city :(

Is Bruce Watts the Watts-Woodland Bruce Watts?

Ron Benton is going. I'm thinking about going(west coast X 2). Should be a good group of BAC members.

I live right down the street from KLGB...and am working the 99's booth on Saturday mid morning....I am having an open house BBQ for anyone that did not want to fork out for the super expensive dinners :). I have to work on Thursday and Friday but drinks sounds like fun...

I'm thinking about coming down. I would like to, and I could add a trip over to Riverside to see my nephew at UCR. I am going to have to do the trip VFR, so I don't know about the coastal fog, any opinions Jeanne, it seems like you have been fogged in a lot this summer, or had nasty weather?

I'm staying at the Golden Sails and flying into Long Beach. I secured a hangar at Jet flite. Yes Marshal, Bruce Watts is part of the family that owns O41. He is also a BAC member and I'm pleased to call him a friend. Woodland was one of the first Beech Aero Club locations. Bruce's dad is 90 and has some great tales of early Beech days. He knows Ms. Jensen and told me he knew her husband as well. He even remembered her maiden name. He is truly a sharp minded guy with tons of Beech history tucked away. Bruce grew up around Beechcraft and knows our planes and the rest of the Beech line in and out.

Conway...If you get over the pass, Fullerton is usually more vfr than Long Beach...I can give you a ride if you need it... :).

That would be great Jeanne, I'll let you know. Pam's not to big on coming, she is very busy at work, but nothing new there.

Hey Everyone, I talked with Bob a day or so ago, let's try for Dinner/Drinks on Friday night for those that are in town. Jeanne your the local, any recommendations, good atmosphere, close by, and certainly less than 150 bucks a head :)

Ok, I will be talking to the manager at Busters Beach House about reserving for us for Friday Night...It would be great if I could get a headcount...
