Here is some important information for anyone heading to Gastons for the 11/5 fly in.
1) Identifier 3 Mike Zero (3M0)
2) No lights and NO AFTER DARK OPERATIONS.
I'm not making a recomendation here as to how late you can still see, but if it is after 5:00PM Central Time, you need to be very cautious and consider landing at the near by Baxter Co Regional (BPK)
3) The reason for no after dark operations are unfriendly bluffs and powerlines that are lurking nearby. Not particularly tall, but not really in places that you would expect them.
4) My chart shows the MSA (minimum safe altitude) for the gastons area is 1800 feet.
5) Traffic approaching from the South and West will be flying over the Ozarks and will be operating above areas that have a MSA from 2700 to 3000 Feet. So at least draw a line on a chart and make sure you consider the terrain as you are inbound.
6) It is not scary, it only seems that way if you read this message (sorry)... And once you are here, you will appreciate what this part of Arkansas has to offer.
The following was found on the Gastons website (
www.gastons.com) and has not been verified by me. Although I witnessed people buying fuel last year, I did use the 122.8 frequency for my approach and departure, and I probably loaded the coordinates from the web site into my GPS while I was flight planning...
Latitude 36 20’55”N, Longitude 92 33’ 25”W
Gaston’s Runway 06/24
3,200 feet long
Field Elevation is 479 msl
Unicom 122.8
Kansas City Chart 3M0 Airport Identifier
No Tie-Down Fees
100LL Fuel Available
Hope everyone heading to Gastons has a safe and enjoyable trip both to and from.
