2nd Annual BAC fly out to Gastons White River Resort (3M0)

We're a "Maybe"

You guys are trying really hard to get me out of the beautiful forests of South Arkansas to see you at least saturday of the Gaston's fly-in. The video of the takeoffs was outstanding. It looked to me as if Cloyd was staying low to troll as he went down the river.

We'll try to get up there for at least Saturday the 5th.

Perhaps Cloyd will comment as to my memory. As I recall, Cloyd made a last minute decision to take on 60 gallons of gas for his return to the Gulf. Well within acceptable weight, but it made for a less than stellar climb rate. The same thing happened with me, as I had 40 gallons of gas and decided at the last minute to give a ride to one of our fly in attendees (only we were the last to leave, so there was no video)

Great to hear that you are coming!

'd love to go to Gaston.

Only problem is.. have to work wkends..

Yet again..only way I could make it, is to act up at work ('tell the boss exactly what I think of 'im..'er..whatever) & GET suspended..

Have fun folks,

jon

I heared something about Aviation Flu???

Someone could come down with it on a Friday and be back to normal (as normal as a pilot can be) on Monday.

Wonder if your boss'l go for it.

Ray

That might be AVIAN flu, but it's not like the boss would know the difference right? Gee boss, if I'm on the ground for more than 5 days straight, I have to be prescribed expensive doses of AV-Gas to make a full recovery...

Mike R. (and others) have been encouraging everyone to watch their speeds with short field landings on BAC-Mail, and rightly so. I remember last year, my final at Gastons was 85 MPH and I was at least 1000 ft (maybe a little more) down the runway before I found any grass. Plenty of room there with over 3000 available, but I imagine that a 90 MPH approach would have burned up close to 2000 feet (still plenty of room if your middle name is evil kenevil).

Jay,

Your memory is correct. I had full tanks. Also I only have 160 ponies (I know you have 150) but Brad and Dave and Dave all had 180 ponies. Course Brad had one passenger and Dave B had 2.

Here is some important information for anyone heading to Gastons for the 11/5 fly in.
1) Identifier 3 Mike Zero (3M0)
2) No lights and NO AFTER DARK OPERATIONS.
I'm not making a recomendation here as to how late you can still see, but if it is after 5:00PM Central Time, you need to be very cautious and consider landing at the near by Baxter Co Regional (BPK)
3) The reason for no after dark operations are unfriendly bluffs and powerlines that are lurking nearby. Not particularly tall, but not really in places that you would expect them.
4) My chart shows the MSA (minimum safe altitude) for the gastons area is 1800 feet.
5) Traffic approaching from the South and West will be flying over the Ozarks and will be operating above areas that have a MSA from 2700 to 3000 Feet. So at least draw a line on a chart and make sure you consider the terrain as you are inbound.
6) It is not scary, it only seems that way if you read this message (sorry)... And once you are here, you will appreciate what this part of Arkansas has to offer.

The following was found on the Gastons website (www.gastons.com) and has not been verified by me. Although I witnessed people buying fuel last year, I did use the 122.8 frequency for my approach and departure, and I probably loaded the coordinates from the web site into my GPS while I was flight planning...
Latitude 36 20’55”N, Longitude 92 33’ 25”W
Gaston’s Runway 06/24
3,200 feet long
Field Elevation is 479 msl
Unicom 122.8
Kansas City Chart 3M0 Airport Identifier
No Tie-Down Fees
100LL Fuel Available

Hope everyone heading to Gastons has a safe and enjoyable trip both to and from.
Jay

Currently... Thursday
Gastons: 2 days away for some, 1 day away for others.

I haven't asked for Roll Call on who is coming, but from what you have told me, it looks like we will have 11 to 12 different planes there. Then there is always the chance that someone is planning to come and has not said anything.

We look forward to seeing you this weekend.

If you are coming Friday and think you may need a ride. Take my number in case you need it. Jay Bruce 501-281-2967

Well, Jon, your Toronto-to-Dayton trek inspired Paula and me to drive to Gaston's, after Sunny broke his alternator belt. Fourteen hours on the road Friday, with an 0130 EST arrival Saturday in Gaston's. Heading home to SC early in the AM (Sunday).

Mike, don't know if you will see this tonight or not. Hopefully you are catching up on some Z's... But we want to wish you a safe trip home, and a happy anniversary.

Jay and Deanna Bruce
