Where are you stopping on your way to BACFest?

Post your plans of when and where you plan to stop. Someone may want to meet up and fly in together!

Ann and I are stopping in Rantoul, IL (KTIP) for lunch, just north of Champaign, IL. That will leave us about 90 more minutes to KDBQ.

The Octave Chanute Air Museum, largest aviation museum in Illinois, is located on the field.

Charlotte and plan to do fuel and lunch at KMVN Mt. Vernon IL. Airnav says $5.50 gas full serve, but more interested in a long stop at the restaurant. Should be there 1pm central on Thrusday, Oct 1.

I'm stopping at Litchfield Regional (3LF) just northeast of St Louis around 11am for fuel.
3LF is not far from KSET. I may be able to stop by on my way. I am reserving the right to leave wed evening. Forcast for oct 1st still says perfect. 3LF generally has good fuel prices.

Still watching wx..

If Thursday is not looking good we will bug out on Wednesday and overnight at KVPZ, Valparaiso - Porter County Airport in Indiana. This will leave a short flight to DBQ on Thursday morning. Most likely we will depart on Thursday morning and make a fuel stop at KUYF - Madison County Airport in London, OH. (fuel $4.89), then on to DBQ for the festivities. A long day in the saddle.

After studying the last 3 weeks of mornings, it is apparent my "first light" departure has about a 50/50 chance of happening this time of year. There is typically a band of lower ovc just north of San Antonio until about 10 or 11 am. Hill country, lots of towers, my personal minimum is 2200 ft AGL reported for that route. Simple (aka - - I stay on the ground with anything lower if going north) So .... I am planning a Tuesday departure, hoping for a one day trip, but ok with an overnight adventure as well. Early to DBQ is not a problem!

Most likely routing will be:
- depart 8T8 at first light (6:45 am). I will file a flight plan to DBQ and if available, will use flight following for the entire route http://flightaware.com/live/flight/N1998L
- first alternate KGTU. Only 1 hour away and a good airport if I want to take an early break. Most likely overfly, but I like planning for an early stop as a contingency.
- planned fuel stop is KHHW. The 3 hour leg from San Antonio.
- next planned fuel stop is KDMO after another 3 hour leg.
- then it is about 2 1/2 hours to KDBQ, which has me arriving with half tanks and approx. 10 hours after departing my hangar.
- wild guess if I overnight - KFSM (several hotels close to field)

Any suggestions are appreciated. Once north of DFW this will be new territory for me. I will be communicating with another BAC member (from north of Houston) so we might just link up. No night flying this trip.

Photos - - BACFest teaser: I am going for the "minivan option" back there, convertible to single bucket, or a lot of suitcases (and the trumpet, of course) .... or back to the 2 person bench. The removable snack center/beverage holder/armrest is a work-in-progress, and will be my show-and-tell. Sweet!

Have an enjoyable and safe trip,
Nelson

Depart Eagle (KEGE) to either Cheyenne, Nebraska ($5.10/gal., yikes) or Pine Bluffs (82V, about 30 miles east of Cheyenne, $4.38), then Wayne Muni./Morris Fld. (KLCG, $4.16) then on into KDBQ. It will be a big day of flying.

The fuel price is why I'm stopping there. Do you know if there is food on the field?

Steve and Sharmalie plan wheels up at 6:35 am Thursday land at KHHG Huntington In at around 10 am. Potty and leg break then back in for the last 2.5 hrs to DBQ, looking to arrive between 1 or 2 after all said and done.

For us coming from the DC area that's about how long it takes to fly to Fla. no real problem, just set up the auto pilot, talk to ATC and go. We are going IFR all the way, best thing I've ever done is to get that rating.

Auto pilot? I am the auto pilot. Have a safe flight we'll be wheels up from Ocean City MD by 7 and we will also file. I agree, best rating I got was the instrument ticket.

No food at 3LF not even within walking distance that i know of. I stop in 3LF often. If I were coming from any where in Virgina, I would stop at sullivan ind and tank up on fuel then drop into Mattoon for lunch in il. SIV and MTO respectively. 50 gallons of fuel would only be 12 dollars more than flying an hour out of your way to 3LF. I was thinking about eating at DBQ and watch the planes come in. There is supposed to be a hamburger joint on the ramp.

CEN5(CYOD)-CYBR, fuel and food. CYBR - KGFX, clear customs. KGFX - KDBQ. 1063NM. Still watching weather, but planning on leaving Wednesday, or Tuesday, or Monday......Commercial??
On another note, if someone has a pilot's side, left hand, serviceable brake piston assembly that they are willing to part with, bring it to BAC Fest and I'll buy it from you. Safe flight all!

N7912L Departs Texas on 9/30 mid morning.

KPSN (Palestine, TX) >> Direct KFYV (Fayetteville, AR)
for o/n - dinner with friends Wed nite.

From KFYV >> KDBQ direct

But with option to recycle and refuel at KHAE (Hannibal MO), as I have always wondered about the place since reading Mark Twain way back when...).

Expect wheels down KDBQ around noon 10/1 subject to wind and wx

Looks like possible rain/ifr Sunday so have friends in Galena area and may do a tour of the town that day so as not to miss playing poker, etc with the group.

Will there be a booth where we can get Marty autographs?

Refuel/Refood somewhere western Ohio, eastern Ind.
Any suggestions for airports with courtesy car or on-field restaurant?

I have seen a courtesy car there in the past.
