BAC Picnic at Oshkosh Airventure - Oshkosh, WI (KOSH) - Tuesday, July 29, 2014

AVIATOR_

Flight Levels
Join us for our annual picnic at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh. Bob Schmidt will be making the arrangements for the picnic when he returns from Alaska. The location on the grounds has yet to be determined. We are hoping to have the picnic in Camp Scholler this year. I will post an update when I know more. The picnic will start at 2:00PM CDT and ends when the last person leaves. We will supply brats and burgers with all the fixings, plus beer, soft drinks and water. If you have portable chairs, you may want to bring them.

Please respond to this thread if you plan on attending so we can plan our food and drink quantities.

Sorry I am going to miss the picnic as I am not going to arrive until Thursday night it Friday morning. Any other activities for the weekend with BAC?

Also do you suggest camping in the general or classic area (assuming a 66 Beech is a classic)?

Roland,

Since you are pre-1971, you can camp in Vintage aircraft camping, hold up your VAC sign. Tell the approach guy at FISKE you want to land on 36/18. That makes it a very short taxi.

Would you recommend "vintage" camping over general?

Roland, I will be arriving either Thursday evening or Friday morning. Maybe some of us who don't arrive until later in the week can have an "after the picnic party". Hope to see you there.

Roland,

Vintage aircraft camping is a smaller and less crowded area than the general aviation camping ("North 40"). You may want to study the Airventure grounds map to help decide which you would prefer. It looks like the ratio of people to shower facilities is better at vintage vs general. Maybe someone with Airventure aircraft camping experience can chime in. Both vintage aircraft parking and vintage aircraft camping are along the north/south taxiway Papa, near P3 and P4. It's a short taxi from landing on 36L. If you decide on general aviation camping, your taxi time will be much shorter if you can land on 9/27. A quick and polite request for a different runway during your wing rock will probably be honored by ATC at FISKE.

I have only been to Airventure the last two years. The first year, I thought parking in vintage parking would be rather presumptuous, among only Staggerwings and 195s. Actually, there are many boring P and C brand aircraft there, so a pre 1971 Baby Beech is just what is needed to spice up the vintage area. So after we cleared runway 36L, we taxied for >30 minutes to the farthest northeast corner of the north 40. Last year we cleared 36L and parked immediately in vintage parking. In vintage parking/camping, you may get a spot good enough for watching the air shows.

Hope to see you there!

Bob

I also agree, we should have another get together later in the week.

We'll miss the picnic this year, working around Lisa's work schedule.
But, sign us up for a picnic or meeting later in the week. (Thurs/Sun)

We're flying to OSH on Sunday morning (July 27) and leaving Monday evening (July 28).
We'll return Thursday evening (July 31) and leave Sunday (Aug 3).
It's easy to do when you live 30 minutes from Oshkosh. (Watertown, WI, RYV)

Picnic Location

The picnic will be held in Paul's Woods, thanks to a friend that is letting me use his camp site for the afternoon. I haven't seen it yet, but he says it is bigger than most and has a picnic table. I've attached a map of Paul's Woods with the approximate picnic location.

I'll go back through this thread and come up with a headcount. If you are planning to attend, or if you have to cancel, please post on this thread. Don't want to run out of food or drink!

The North-South Street name that's too small to read is Deischer Eaa St.
