Beech Aero Club International Fly in (Virtual Online ) Wednesday 5/13 0000 Zulu

Hello Peter ,
Hopefully you can join us . I know this is 2 am your time. Depending on how this goes maybe we can schedule some better times depending on interest.

Mark, what a nice car! I love it! Remember the movie when McFly travelled to the BACFest 2099 when the club celebrated its 100. anniversary in Tullahoma again!

Easy stuff, Fred is correct (refresher): Zulu time is London time (Greenwich to be precise) +1h for central Europe +1h for summer time. So basically Zulu time is more or less just our time. A meeting at 00:00z would be at 2 am :-(
On the other hand, a sunday morning meeting for the US (nice for Europe) would put Mark in the same position - in the middle of the night.
So the master has to decide now, who should be able to attend :-) Not an easy job...

Whisky Echo India is established on a five minute final.

JP, This was a great Flyin! Thank you and everyone for joining!

Several People had asked about leaning, although we didn’t get around to it in this flyin.

I will discuss it here.

All of our Fleet can fly at Peak EGT! That’s perfect place to fly for best economy! The aircraft with fuel injected engines can fly Lean Of Peak EGT, with an all cylinder engine monitor system installed.

Do Not Fly your engine ‘slightly rich of peak EGT’ in what Lycoming calls the Red Box. This is not good. This greatly stresses your cylinders and engine components.

You only need to know and remember two things; Peak EGT and 150 Degrees Rich Of Peak EGT.

Peak EGT = Best Economy

150 Degrees ROP = Best Power

Hello Peter ,

Good morning y' all, JP, thanks again for your post but unfortunately my eyes didn't allow me to attend although I planned it. This event was Marks timing and I saw, he was there - good! Next time I will...

Regarding LOP discussion: what is the reason to go below peak? I mean, your fuel is cheaper than water in other areas of the world so why do you harm your engine? Think of costs on the long run when you have to OH cylinders or other parts. You will probably never save money by operating LOP if you are honest.
I learned from a source that LOP makes sense with a GAMI system installed in a 540 Conti because this engine is known as very little effective and the filling of the cylinder is worse compared to our 360 Lycos. So GAMI improves the effectiveness of the engine a lot and if you have that, then LOP is better - but only then. For me, maxmason brought it to the point here: https://vbl.beechaeroclub.org/showt...ureted-engines?p=138285&viewfull=1#post138285

Peter,
I am sorry you missed it this time. I was hoping you could have made it. Hopefully, it will work out better for you next time.

Sorry I missed the meeting. I did not check my email until late that evening after the meeting was over.

I absolutely agree with Peter!

Today is the 1960s all over again, just much better. Gasoline is cheaper than water, there’s no air traffic. You have 60 gallons of fuel capacity. Lean to Peak, then enrich to 125 - 150 degrees Rich of Peak, for Maximum Power.

Sorry I missed it.

I'd love to see further discussion around LOP/ROP.

Start a forum thread on this subject, that way we can get bac to it without having to sort thru the thread drift. I suspect LOP/ROP thread will be longer than the donut deal. LOL

Rap (who missed last night but will try to make the next one)

So I put the meeting on the wrong day and tried to login tonight (4/15), what an idiot. Hope you all had fun, sorry I missed it!

Glad I'm not the only one! I came here to say the same thing.
Looking forward to the next one.

I wasn't going to say anything, but as long as I'm in a group of others....., me too!

Who would have thought that the Beech Aero Club would have their very own version of the "Me Too" movement; only slightly different!
Sounds like a good review topic for one of the seminar events at BACFest 2020 in Tullahoma.....
In the meantime, UTC=GMT=Zulu Time. Truth be told, JP almost had me as well because he said Wednesday, but in fact 0000Z Wednesday is in fact 1800 MDT on Tuesday here in Alberta. Good One JP!

I honestly didn't try to stump anyone. With an international event I thought why not use Zulu .It was fun to see OZ live at 1030 am ( Fall weather) and Canada @ 630 PM with 18 Inches of snow. I think we will talk a little about ATC light signals on our next one .

Of the twenty or so attendees, I suspect that I was the only one that was on the other side of the date line, and therefore, the only one that was actually there on Wednesday.
