Climbing to Cruise
Greetings from the Great Northwest!  Join us Saturday, June 10,  2023 at Ken Jernstedt Airfield Hood River Oregon (4S2) in the beautiful Columbia River Gorge for a flyin, lunch and museum tour.

The second Saturday of every month the museum opens its doors with no admission fee for all to tour.  They serve lunch between 11:00 and 1:00, so plan on arriving by 11:00.  If you arrive early, tour the museum, or stay late and walk through 3.5 acres of indoor hanger space filled with actual flyable antique airplanes, cars, bikes, ,motorcycles, tractors, and a host of authentic items from the past!  They have antique auto tours through the grounds during the day.  This month the theme will be, "Gliders and the World of Silent Flight".

I DM'ed you on Facebook but I'll post here, too. Barring unforeseen circumstances such as weather or maintenance, I hope to make it down there this year.

Nevada!  Looking forward to seeing you again!  If you send me a text I will be able to update you with any last minute updates.

Have a good week.

The unpredictable weather in the Northwest strikes again!!  For those of you scattered across the country and the world, the Cascade mountain range divides the state of Washington and Oregon into 1/3 to the West and 2/3 to the right.  The majority of the population (and the large majority of the members of BAC) live in the Western 1/3.  Typically all weather arrives out of the Pacific Ocean and stacks up against the Cascade Mt range.  It is a much smaller range of mountains then the Rockies, but still large enough to lock in clouds and weather against the West slope.  For our fly-in on Saturday the remenants of a Pacific storm were doing their thing making flying a low IFR activity across the Western cities, so the members who wanted to attend all called me with cancellations.  I happen to live on the East side of the mountains, which is an area fortunate enough to take advantage of those beautiful mountains blocking all that weather allowing much more VFR flying!  So, that is a long way of saying, a friend of mine and I were the only ones who attended the flyin in Hood River on Saturday!

As the summer progresses we will typically see more reliable VFR flying across the entire region.  I would like to schedule another fly-in for July 8th. I will take suggestions for a location over the next couple of weeks.  Please contact me or respond to this thread and lets open up the discussion for an event or gathering for us all to attend.  One way or another, there will be another fly-in for the 8th, so mark your calenders and plan on stretching your wings!

I was so bummed that the weather foiled my plan to attend. It's frustrating and even disheartening. At least I was able to go up for an hour or so the following afternoon.
