Not really flying related, but anyway..

Headed to Andromeda
Many of you have read my posts over the years of flying to the Bahamas or read the old articles. This year I am sailing down for an extended stay. I should have a Garmin tracking device for fun, and if anyone is heading down, a way to send a message. Might be another good flyin.

I won’t be sharing much flying stories but I hope to return in a strong way to BAC in the spring.

Paul,
This is going to be an amazing adventure for you. How long will you be in the Bahamas? Are you sailing BAC, or will Moonshadow be staying down there?

I am often curious as to the common link. So many of my aviating friends are also sailors.

Paul,

I am envious of your trip! If only you could have the plane and the boat down in the Bahamas. What will be your transportation down there? I am assuming over 30ft?

Dude! You have a tow line handy ??? :D

Is there such a thing a SailAware, where we could follow your flightpath - er, course by "Sail" number along the way? :)

The boat is a 46ft Jeanneau. Might be seen on marinetraffic.com as well as my posted Garmin site. I really don’t know when I will get back. I have some guests coming to visit and I will be doing volunteer with with the Bahamas national trust that manages the national land and sea park in the Exumas. P

Paul,

That's a great way to spend the winter! That was something I have never considered. Of course, I'd be looking for a place to spend the Summer.

What are you doing for the Sierra during your absence? I hope you have someone reliable to fly the airplane every now and then. I do not recommend "pickling" the engine with preservative oils. They don't work. CamGuard and AvBlend did better in a Consumer Aviation test of oils. I'd have one or the other in the engine even if you have someone that can keep the juices flowing in the airplane. CamGuard and AvBlend protected from corrosion for the duration of the 21 day test. So, even if your buddy can't fly every week, you should be OK.

Two questions -are you sailing single-handed or do you have a crew? Are you following the coast or going 'direct to'?

The boat won’t fit on the ICW. I am sailing down with a crew of two, three total on board. We will depart Tuesday evening after front passes then ride the north wind southbound till thins smooth out after the winds dies down. Then cross the Gulf Stream and head direct from there. At least that is the current plan! Just like flying there needs to be a plan B and C etc. watching the weather is really similar, delay when things look bad and take advantage of tailwinds.

Looks like Paul has “dunarunna”

Seems he got as far as South Carolina and turned left. He is currently pointed for Morocco!

I can't wait to hear about Paul's sailing adventure. I'm trying to figure out this course reversal from yesterday...

Yep - - my sailboat does the same thing at times .... lots of zig and zag to get to a destination. But it is part of the fun.

Map shows he has arrived at an island call "Paul Werbin" - - sweet :D
