Northeast Region Fly-In: Republic Field

First ever Long Island BAC Fly-In

Come on down to historic Republic Field (FRG) on Long Island, within easy view of New York City, for our first ever fly-in at that location.

Come sit on the edge of whatever TFR they come up with in NYC and join us as we go: "Neener neener nee-ner" in their direction!

FRG is Class D and is outside the greater NYC Bravo space. There is a $2.50 landing fee assessed by the airport...we'll see if we can get that waived but don't hold your breath.

Plans and program still being worked out...watch this space or follow the "Republic Field" thread on the Fly-In forum.

Hey boys and girls,
Only a couple weeks until the Aug 2 Fly-In on Long Island; at historic Republic Field (KFRG). Start planning your flight.

Check out the calendar entry on this site for details. Come marvel at the Towers Of Gotham in the distance; feast your eyes on the beautiful waters surrounding L.I. (Just maintain a healthy distance from both of them! )

I hear that the tower likes approaches from the North, over the 4 stacks of the power plant. Now...I don't care how many times you've done it on your Flight-Sim...do NOT fly between the stacks!

Remember, the eats are on us!

FRG Fly in

Hey Steve or Warren..
Was the fly in to Republic postponed? i saw a date of 8-16-08...im kinda hoping its' still on for Aug. 2nd.
jack..(1914L)

Hello Jack,
No not postponed. But an incautious glance at the calender on the home page can mess you up. The date of any posted event is above the event.

There is another event, the Rib Fest on the same day; so they are lumped together under Aug 2. Put's the date even further from our fly-in.

So we are still on for Saturday. Should be a new entry by tonight. See you there.

I'll be there Steve! Oh wait, I went to Chris L's thing in Wine Country last weekend. To pay for fuel, I didn't buy the dogs, dog food last week. They are lookin' hungry, and I'm afraid I'm looking a little tasty (See Wine Country pictures, I'd be a good meal for them buggers) to them about now. I better skip it and buy dog food! Next time.

You people have fun, our fly-in was great, and all had a great time!

Conway (aka Mike Samac)

ps: BTW - The dogs are my kids, I'd go without food before they would!

Hey Mike!
How ya doin'? Don't worry too much about size...there's no way they'd let me get away with it. (You seen my pic??)
I would be very impressed if you did show up on Long Island. Just idly doing a fantasy flight plan to Santa Maria from Mass. shows about a week's trip. Not counting time hiding from gully-whumpers!

Take care and hope to see you at BAC Fest.

Bring him along, our guest. We've done that in the past. ('Course with our planes noone is able to bring along their extended family!)
Tradition seems to be that we will have cookie jar for those compelled to contribute (they threw money on the table last time because I didn't have the jar) so, if he feels inclined, we won't complain.

Hey, make him pay the landing fee since I don't seem to be able to get FRG to drop it.

Hey Steve,
I will mention it to him tonight. i know we will all have a great time tomorrow...i will probably be enroute around 8:30am..it only took me 28mins on wen. to get down there from DXR..i want to get to the airport early so i can wash her up alittle..maybe knock 2 more minutes off my ETA..well Steve i will see you there tomorrow..

Well, we pulled off the Republic Field Fly-In!
Only one plane actually flew in, mine, but we had two from on field and another represented from a neighboring Long Island airport.
Six people all together; not bad for the kind of weather forecasts we had (not to mention the Wx we actually did have).
Had a great lunch at the 56th Squadron Restaurant (terrific decor in a Battle of Britain mode).
I really want to thank all who made it and those who tried.
I especially wish to thank everyone for the offers of a bed, a car, a ride, etc when it looked as if I might have to overnight. Rest assured that I did make it...if it weren't for ships on the Sound, there would have been NO detail to focus on during the crossing! But past the haze of Bridgeport all I saw was 5/8-7/8 broken undercast at 1000'. Piece of cake.

Steve,
im glad you made it know problem.... i was at DXR around 830 am,got gassed up,treated her to alittle oil...(she likes that) and got the weather...they were reporting severe thunderstorms from pennslyvania moving east at a clip of 30 knots.. still not too bad..i would have made it to Farmingdale no problem..but JFK was reporting ifr the rest of the day..starting at noon and beyond..still no problem,as long as i had nothing to do on Sunday..i am very happy you had a great time...the resturaunt there is very nice...ive been there like 10 yrs ago..i was thinking maybe we can hook up some weekend..we are not that far apart time wise.looking at my calander ..next weekend i will be camping with the kids up in North Cannan Ct.but the following weekend looks good if you want to hook up for some good ol' breakfast...Glad you had a good time on Saturday. at least its' in the books now as an offical event!! take care,
Jack (N1914L)
