North Central fly-in. K81

Flight Levels
BBQ at "we be smokin" on May the 9th. K81 is near the town of Paola just south of Kansas city. Plan on meeting at 1130am. For those interested nascar has a night race scheduled sat evening at Kansas city speedway. I think it would be a good idea to look for tickets early if you want to attend the race.

Thanks for posting this Steve. Steve, Linda and I enjoyed this fly-in last year and I can tell you it has a potential to be a bit hit for a lot more people than the three of us that attended last year. Taxi right up to the restaurant and enjoy all the food you can possibly eat at a very reasonable price. Afterwards, Linda and I plan to attend the Kansas City NASCAR race where every big name driver you can think of will be. Last year there were 76,000 attending. Cars g0 so fast we could not read the numbers on their doors as they went by. Tickets to the race are pricey at about $130 each, but this is a big race. Let me know you are interested and just maybe we can get tickets close together.

Here's a picture of Steve & Mike by Steve's plane at the fly-in last year. The "We Be Smokin" restaurant is the building behind them. This is a great little airport to fly in to. I guarantee that you will have to recalculate your weight and balance after you eat at this place. Great food at great prices. This is a luncheon fly-in that you will be glad you attended.

Two weeks to go, I know there are north central people out there that can make to the Kansas city area in a couple of hours. BBQ is good and right now the fuel is 3.98 a gallon. You can come in light and leave heavy in more ways than one. :D See you on May the 9th.

Those who I am aware that intend to come to this fly-in so far are:
Steve Powers
Mike & Linda Nielsen
Denis & Kathryn Weiser
Nelson Amen
Tom Bragg
You are the reasons fly-ins are fun! Great turn out. We're on a roll now so anyone else?

Here is an updated list of those are planning on attending "We Be Smokin":
Steve Powers
Mike & Linda Nielsen
Denis & Kathryn Weiser
Nelson Amen
Tom Bragg
Lee & Eric Cole (Live in Kansas City-will be driving to fly-in and attending races on Friday and Saturday)
This is looking to be a great fly-in. It is not too late to make plans to join us. We're on a roll, but we need YOU!

Just can't win!!! Right now it's 80% chance of T-storms on both ends for Saturday. Hoping for improvements in the next 7 days!

I agree. We are forecast to have 50-60% chance of rain and TRW's Sunday through Thursday. Let's hope the weather gets it out of its system by next Friday.

I have been looking at the forecast for the Midwest, kinda sketchy so far. Went to windyty and looked at wind forecast. Nice strong south wind predicted for that day. not sure yet on a rain date if needed.

Well - - that's that. I am hosed at both ends by the weather. Looks like it's chicken McNuggets this weekend. Let us know if you come up with a "rained out" alternate date. Dude.

Nelson

I will talk it over with Mike, i figure it may be late jun or july for the next chance. Mike has family business he cannot miss next weekend and i have a grand daughter due in the next couple of weeks. I have been fretting over doing a top overhaul on my plane, I may just pull the trigger this weekend. I am nervous it will become one of those black hole projects.

The Paola fly-in just could not happen with 300-600 ft. ceilings from St. Louis to western Nebraska. Since we had race tickets, we drove 6 1/2 hours (instead of a 2 hr. flight) to Kansas City and had a unofficial BAC "drive-in" to the Kansas City Speedway race Saturday evening. We met BAC member Lee Cole and his son Eric who are form Kansas City. We enjoyed lunch at a barbeque restaurant about a block from our hotel. We met them at the grandstands prior to the race and had about a 1 hour very pleasant visit. Lee is retired Union Pacific Railroad employee and Eric is an economics major in college. The race completed 98 laps before the rain cut loose and then we had a 2 1/4 hour rain delay. The evening race got over a little after midnight. 76,000 fans and fast cars so there was a lot of excitement. Best of all, a couple of BAC'ers were able to get together. Here's some pics:

There are clear skies forcast for most of the north central region for tomorrow. Who is up for bbq lunch at paola. If your going to be burning avgas anyway what about noon time.

I've got a heavy schedule in my clinic in the morning so I'm sorry I won't be able to make it. This is a great airport for a fly-in with great food. The weather is going to be dry so how about the rest of you? You will enjoy this one.
