Night Launch at Wallops Island, VA

Orbiting Earth
After two years of inactivity at Wallops Island, VA launch pad, the facility will once again launch a rocket to resupply the International Space Station and if the weather cooperates, this one will be able to be seen all along the Mid-Atlantic seaboard. This is a great opportunity to do a little night currency work and hopefully see a rare sight. What better perch than in your plane? Take a picture of the launch from your plane and post it to the forum or email it to me ([email protected]) for your PT points. For more info, follow the link below:

I would love to see this from the air. I haven't been night current since 11/2013, maybe I'll grab my CFII and make a two for deal on getting current and viewing the launch.

Worst case....i could go 10 miles east to the ocean city beach and watch it but it just won't be the same.

I watched the last try blow up from my back deck on the Chesapeake Bay. 75 miles or so away. It was quite a fireball! Let's hope for a better result this time.

I decided to fly anyway last night. Pulled out the plane. Runup. Bad Mag. Oh well, it goes in for annual this week anyway. Good timing. If I see the launch tonight, it will be from a mountain top!

Yup tonight. I guess today is Monday. Still getting used to this old guy work schedule. Anyway, I just did a fly by...

Here is a lousy picture from about 80 miles spin that as the rocket passed through about 65,000 feet.

Paul,
What were you doing loafing about at FL650, and just what modifications -have- you done to your sierra to get there? (Marty wants to know!)

You are correct Mark, I have been neglectful In Describing my modifications. I thoroughly enjoy readin Marty's effects and successes so I have been looking outside the plane at gravitational, magnetic inversions rotational exacerbations and a variety of imaginary astronomical changes that allow me to enjoy new flying abilities. Perhaps more details to follow if Marty sells his plane and we need more of this sort of effort.

Paul,
I figured as much. I know Marty recently moved to a new secret location in the Arizona desert to keep working on that Flux Capacitor!
