Yes April 2020 seems a way out there, but both for planning and gauging interest...

A big weekend of big events in Rapid City. Arrive for the “Raid Across South Dakota” at the Air and Space Museum to commemorate the Doolittle Raid of April 18, 1942. The Museum will have an authentic WWII B-25 bomber from Sioux Falls onto Ellsworth AFB where it will take part in a base event commemorating the 77th anniversary of the Raid. 1330 hours at the KRAP FBO. We’ll enjoy this event and tour the museum on Friday. https://www.sdairandspacemuseum.com/.

There are many hotels in Rapid City, prices range from $60’s to $120’s, so plenty to select from as planning gets set.

On Saturday the 18[SUP]th[/SUP] a tour of Mt. Rushmore to take in Washington, Jefferson, Roosevelt and Lincoln in the morning. The afternoon we can take in some of the other many options there, including the Crazy Horse Memorial (https://crazyhorsememorial.org/visit), or take in the Badlands Nat. Park (https://www.visitrapidcity.com/badlands-national-park), or the Black Hills Caverns (https://blackhillscaverns.com/) or something else that strikes our fancy!

Sunday morning the 19[SUP]th[/SUP] we can depart with scenic fly over of Mt. Rushmore and Crazy Horse monuments as we head home.
April weather in Rapid City is usually in the low 60’s with low 40’s at night, so better flying performance! Rapid City is 3,200 MSL and has an 8,700 runway.

Sounds like a good trip. To far for me to travel, have a good time folks.

I worked at Homestake Gold mine in Lead SD for a bit and got my PPL in Spearfish SD. Love that area. Custer state park has a small strip 3V0. A nice place to stop after viewing Mt Rushmore.

Mike, I put this on my calendar for next spring, but will have to see what our obligations are as we get closer. Sounds good.

I hope you will understand, with current conditions this event has to be scrubbed for these April dates. I hope to put it bac on the calendar in September or so. It is not likely this will be done with any event at the museum, unless they reschedule the Raid Across South Dakota.

I'll put this bac out there to you for interest in a September event. Thank you to those who were interested in this one.

It's an excellent adventure. Mary and I did this exact scenario, even eating at the firehouse, following the BACFest in Dubuque, IA.

I hope it gets rescheduled and anyone interested gets to attend, it's worth the trip. http://gmflightlog.blogspot.com/2015/10/gone-to-krap.html

September would be nice, we will be out in Indiana for the Commander annual event. That would make for good timing to continue west, knocking out a few more states and exploring.

Unfortunately, I expected this to be scrubbed for now, but we will look forward to doing it in the future. Thanks for trying to set this up. k
