Lunch at Kobelt NY - (N45) - Saturday November 19th

All,

Jeff from KCDW expressed interest - but - can only go on Sunday... We can certainly be flexible - so - if you would like to attend and are free either day - please let me know your preference... We can schedule whichever day works best for the majority...

Regards,
Scott

Scott Brunner - Airboss of New York...

Great choice of fly-in destination.
Looks to be almost dead center of the Northeast Region.
Close to all our members.

For all those who join us on Saturday I'll use our BAC allowance and buy lunch for everyone.

Hi Tom,

LOL - not 2NK9 - or those guys wuill be in for a BIG surprise - and - have no food...

It's N45 Kobelt

Regards,
Scott

All,

Just one more thing - watch out for Gardiner about 2 miles to the north... It's off season - but - during the summer they are normally running (3) Twin Otters almost constantly - with skydivers... In fact - during the summer - the last flights of the day on Friday - the skydivers normally land at Kobelt... I'm pretty sure - if there is good weather - they will be jumping...

Sounds good Glenn...
:)

Regards,
Scott

What!
The Regional Director confused?
Call in the Secret Service.

The correct airport for Saturday is N45?
N45?
That's close to the other place.

I'll (BAC incentive fund) will still buy lunch for the guys who join us for this November fly-in.
Scott Bruner Airboss of New York says it's N45.
Arrive in style in a Beech 19/23/24 and I'll buy lunch.

Tom Corcoran, Regional Director

Just bumping this up a notch as this fly-in Lunch at Kobelt NY - (N45) - is Saturday November 19th which is only days away.

This is nicely located in the middle of the Northeast Region and the weather is looking good!

Arrangements by Scott Brunner, Airboss of New York.

See you there for one of the last fly-ins of this calendar year.

Tom Corcoran, Regional Director

Yep - if you plan to attend - please just post so I can give the resteraunt some type of head count...

So far: Tom, Glenn, and Scott - right ?

Regards,
Scott

I'm still good.

Any local advice on finding/landing N45? A couple of comments on AOPA and AirNav indicated that it can be hard to find. The commenters recommended staying high till you see it and then entering the pattern. Staying high (~3500) is probably a good idea to stay above the Newburgh class D anyway while you are looking for Kobelt. Any experience?

Glenn

Hi Glenn,

LOL - it's so close for me - I haven't flown there yet... If I were coming from your direction with a GPS - I'd plan my route to hit N82 first then direct to N45... That sets you up on a real good course to avoid Stewart's airspace and the Gardiner skydivers to the North - with some real fine visual references... It looks tight on the sectional - but - there is more room than it seems... Stewart will be more than obvious on your right... There is the Shawangunk mountain range that will be on your left... I always like approaching high over an unknown field to get a feel for it - then opening to enter the appropriate pattern... The Gardiner airport is not very visible - however - the closed airport just to the north west of Kobelt is an old WWII Air Force Aux Field and while closed - is rather large and obvious... If you cross over the New York State Thruway on that course - you've gone too far... Hope this helps...

Scott

Hi Carlos,

Weather looks good - nice day for flying - too bad my flight time will be about 6 minutes... Do we have a trophy for the shortest time ever flown to a fly-in ??? Fly safe and see you there - sir...

Regards,
Scott

Scott,
Don't forget that you get points for hosting too. Don't let that Irishman forget to put in for you.

Hi Folks,

What great turn out had today... Just wanted to say thanks to everyone for showing up... I think we had one of the best turnouts we have had this year - six planes - seven if you count "Steve" an inactive BAC Sierra owner based on the field who just happened to wander by - perplexed by all the "Baby Beeches" on his field... Kobelt is a really cool little field but most had trouble finding it - since it's so narrow... It was pretty windy with gusts over 20 reported in the area - but - at least the wind was right down the field for the most part... Ken gets credit for the most landings - as I counted at least three hops...

AND even Steve Cote made it...

Hurrumph!

Scott Brunner says Ken Cook "landed" three times.

Brunner arrived before everyone Saturday. The previous two fly-ins he drove via roads.

Has anyone in BAC actually seen Scott Brunner, Airboss of New York make a landing? Any kind of landing? Does he have a ferry pilot to get his plane where it needs to be?

This is very serious.
