KORS Orcas Island - Annual Fly-In

Around The Moon
I know that the northwest corner of Washington State is a bit out of the way, but if you're in the area, the local EAA Chapter hosts a fly-in the first weekend of August every year. There are no fees to attend - just show up and spend some time with other airplane enthusiests. Depending on the weather we generally have 100 to 150 planes show up over the 3 days of the fly-in. (The record was 208 about 5 years ago.) Some stay all 3 days, some come in just for a couple hours. It's your choice.

The dates for this year are Friday 7/30 through Sunday 8/1. There is plenty of grass tie down area where camping is allowed next to your plane. The normal tie down and camping fees are waived by the airport for the event.

Note that due to the terrain, all traffic is on the east side of the airport (right hand traffic for 34). The CTAF is 128.25mhz. AWOS is 135.425. There will be a special fregency for ground control that will be annouced with signs at the taxiway turnouts during peak times from 9am to 6pm.

There will a Food Shack serving burgers, hot dogs soda, etc. EAA will be selling souvenir T-Shirts and Sweatshirts. The village of Eastsound is less than a 1/2 mile walk from the field and is a tourist destination so there's plenty to keep you occupied.

Unfortunitely, we're both working Fri. & Sat., but we'll be out there on the field enjoying the airplanes on Sunday. Hope to see you there.

Thanks for the heads up! Depending on school I would like to try and fit going up there into the schedule. It was hard to miss out on Arlington and meeting the BACers. I'm working towards earning more money so I may afford more fuel. I aspire to the ranks of Bo Boggs & Marty V. and their flying schedule!

Joel, speaking of fuel, if you get yours at Premier Jet Center, at HIO (or if anyone else fuels up in Hillsboro for that matter) say HI to my son, Robert, who is working line service there!! He will occasionally drive home for the weekend and then ask "Dad, can I borrow the keys to the airplane for the week?" Gotta love it.
He is working on his CFI as well, and has 40+ hrs in my Sierra. Aside from the fact that Robert works there, its a great FBO!
