Weather didn't seem so great Saturday,  did it?

I'd go if it was...  @bobkittine?  Right seat? Gotta be back for dinner tho.

Unfortunately I can't make Saturday. We have Car Night out here on Long Island every Wednesday night so I get to see a real cross section of vintage cars as well as 60s / 70s muscle cars and exotics on a regular basis.

I *could* make Kobelt my solo x-country destination - was planning on Orange county, since I've been there before.  I'll check the plates and see if it's an issue.  Bob can't sit with me, alas.  But, yeah, the weather looks fine for me to do a long x-country Saturday.  I'll know better in a day or so.........

Dan,

Kobelt is just a few miles north and a little east of Orange County. You could fly to Orange and then decide if you want to add a little extra leg, which is absolutely fine, and drop in at Kobelt beofre you return to Long Island.

What you do have to watch though is the you will be skirting Stewart / Newburg's airspace on your way up from Orange, so make sure you stay out of there.

When leaving you could fly a little west and climb above the airspace for Stewart and Poughkeepsie and go direct, or head South back to Orange and then direct home from there. We will review all of these options before you do it.

Bob

Kolbelt is a likely destination Saturday for two other BAC members.

Fair warning - Ken Cook may be flying in from Danielson, Connecticut and Tom Corcoran from Braintree, Massachusetts.

Sounds like the makings of a pop-up fly-in.

If you guys are coming, I'll pop in too -- just a short jump from Orange county.  If I go, I'll likely be there on the early side, and want to get out before noon.  I have a dinner date, and KHWV and surrounding are a zoo in the afternoons on Saturday.  Not needed for a new solo x=ctry pilot.

Everyone be careful of the airspace around Stewart and the Class B as there was an incursion by an Army Instructor Pilot recently in a West Point Flying Club 182 and apparently there have been interceptor flights in the area. The Cadets train at Orange and apparently are being watched closely at the moment.

Listening to LiveATC, the F16 seemed to need a lot point outs.  Good thing the Bad Guys don't fly 182s (or 150s.  See, e.g., Mathias Rust).

I agree. A real cluster you know what. Have been watching around Orange more closely though as an F-16 ended up in the pattern at Orange when I was there flying with a student in an Aeronca Champ and it was flying pretty erratic.

Pop Up Success! Four states represented. New Jersey... New York... Connecticut... Massachusetts.

l-r Dave Falandys KLDJ, Dan Dicker KHWV, Ken Cook KLZD and Tom Corcoran 1B9.

Four BAC members got together at Kobelt NY (N45) on 9/25/21 for a car show and turned it into a fly-in. Our planes were as of as much interest to the spectators as the hundreds of cars on display at the Rotary Club car show. Very civilized and fun. Lunch wasn't too bad either. Spectacular CAVU.

This was a solo cross country flight for Dan, who will have his PPL soon.

Great fun today. Thanks, guys!

I will reach out to Robert Staab at Sussex and see if we can put another attempt together. I want one of those neat tee shirts.
