Doing something that other members might like? Big ideas. Little ideas. Way-out-there and stupid ideas.

There is a prize for the best innovation. Go ahead. What have you got to offer to us. Big. Little. We don't care.

A picture and an explanatory narrative will help.

Here's one.

Raising your brake reservoir up to the cowling oil service door. This is my modification on Yoda's tip of elevating the brake reservoir up higher on the firewall for increased head pressure. It provides easier access during preflight inspection. It requires a 16 inch hose (with a 45 degree fitting and a straight fitting) and an Adel clamp.

Here's #2.

Add a bead of red RTV to engine baffles to prevent chafing, wear, damage and improve engine cooling.

I'm a judge so not eligible to win... however...

Everyone has struts on each side of the glareshield. The windshield is in the way so they are impossible to keep painted and looking good. Buy some Protective Wire Wrap at Harbor Freight to slip over the struts. Cheap and improves appearance.

Here's #3.

Paint the inside of your lower engine cowling. Most upper cowls are painted inside, most lower cowls are not??? Paint seals the fiberglass, adding a layer of protection and makes it easier to spot a problem during preflight.

This is a great idea but would something like this requiere AP/IA sign off as a minor modification to the airplane certificate?Arturo

Another great idea, will it have to be thermal paint? Thanks

Tom Corcoran

great too!

The real trade name of that wire bundle wrap is 'convolex tubing'. It is approved for use on aircraft. And this is good idea.
IMHO.

I actually painted my support struts black during windshield replacement. The black color is less in your face (noticeable in your field of vision) as the white paint. Which reminds me. My struts were very tight against the old poorly fitting windshield. I replaced it with a thicker windshield. I cut the top flanges from two spare struts and used them as spacers between the struts and airframe to give more clearance.

I had a bump added to my lower cowling on the Sierra. Without this they all seem to hit the muffler causing wear to both.

I think the whole BAC deserves an award for being the first type club specific live online (Imeet) FAA approved wings credit seminars.

While we are all on a roll...

Cover those nasty spots where the paint is flaking with a vinyl circle which can be made for you in most colors by any sign shop... cheap. The only prep is a quick rub with a Scotchguard pad. It's not an elegant fix, though better that flaking paint. It looks better and protects until your next paint job. Note: A circle has no corners to lift up.

That's pretty good. Easy to spot problems early.

James: Thanks for the promotion via email.

Sierra MLG donut compression tool that does not require the removal of the gear doors. Saves time and aggravation. I also have a video but it won't upload to the site.

Check, access and remove cylinder head casting flashing, to improve cylinder head cooling.
