Fly-in notice

If only 20% of the members use the web site, perhaps BAC should select 4 or 5 flyins and publish the dates in the magazine. We can place the others on the web site. I would suggest The Oshkosh picnic, Sun n Fun, Arlington and a few others. Maybe more members would come. Thoughts?

This sounds like a good idea to me if we know of events in time. I am sure that any events planned far enough in advance would be very welcome in BACTalk. The big ones you mentioned seem to be the main events. I know that I wanted to mention my upcoming regional events in the region news section but did not have enough details by deadline. I think that you are very right in looking for a way to contact members that don't often visit the site.

Bob-
Your idea has a lot of merit and the big events you mentioned would be easy to include in the magazine as the dates are known well in advance. Other BAC sponsored events could be included provided the timing works. Any exposure we can get to BAC events and others should have a positive impact on attendance. Due to budgetary considerations, the number of issues of BACTalk have been reduced but still, any notice we can get out to the members is good thing, in my view.

RD's, poll your Regions for the rest of the year. There are usually events that repeat annually. (Sorry, Northeast, I did not do the "Up the IRS" event this year. Next year for sure.)
Rick gives us plenty of notice on the magazine. Let's plug some column space!

Definitely find a way to get BAC magazine readers over to the website, obviously they can attain more information about the event by logging in and asking questions, be great to hear from them.

I know that I am remiss in this, but I know us regional directors can email all our region members in one swoop. This might contact some that don't log onto the site. Now..... if only I could find my notes on how to do this.....

Bob, I'm not so sure your assumption is valid. I don't know about the new website but there used to be a feature on the old website that was available to the Board that showed the last time a member had logged onto the website. I was amazed at how many members had logged on the last day, last week, last two weeks, etc. I think visits to the website are more frequest than you think. Many may be silent visitors. Maybe Mark G can tell us something on frequency of visits to the website.

Well then either the website is not as active as it used to be or my memory is not as good as it used to be.

Hope I don't cause too much work for Dan Jonas by mentioning this, but he is able to pull a list of members within a certain radius of a fly-in location. He pulled two 100nm radius lists for me for two fly-ins. I then (manually) put the members email addresses in a distribution list and sent an email with the fly-in info. A little more work for us, but it targets the probable attendees without flooding everyone's email.

Cloyd,if you click quick links then who's on line.I do not know about how many times a member logs on? ken

I get a monthly BAC Fire Newsletter from Mark Gooderum. Could flyin notices not be included in that?

I get a monthly BACFire! Newsletter from Mark Gooderum. Could flyin notices not be included in that?

Ooops! Fly-in have been listed in the BACFire! newsletter since the very first one was published back in September of 2007....I know 'cause I wrote it!

It seems like a good idea to me to publish some of the bigger and known events within the magazine. The events are published each month in BACFire out about 75 days in advance. For example, the upcoming BACFire (middle of this month) will have all posted events through the end of July. This publication goes to all members each month. Since it comes in their email, it does not require a visit to the website. We can't make them read it though.

That said, it does not help get the information out if the event is posted in the last part of a month and occurs prior to the next issue of BACFire.

As indicated, I am able to do radius reports on any event. Over the last number of months I have geo-coded the entire membership. I also geo-reference all events when I put them in the database. It is pretty simple to generate a report of members within x miles of any event.

I sent some out to several RD's a little over a month ago for some specific events. I know that some of them used them to specifically invite nearby members to an event. I am happy to provide those to anyone hosting an event if they intend to actually use it. I need to know which event and the radius mileage.
