Burning Man 2009

burningman

I looked at the websites, but didn't really understand what the burningman event is about. Is it some form entertainment?

I haven't been, so I can only go what I've heard from my son and seen online. Whacky, temporary art on display, performance art, dancing, just about anything creative goes (and I mean anything!). Then they burn "the man" at the end of the week. Used to be a just a wooden fellah on fire, now there are fireworks, light effects, animation, etc. Not everyone's cup of tea, and I'm still not sure about how I'll like it.

A co-worker has a theme camp and I'm going to go up and try to get some aerial photo's of it. This is my first time up there and from what i hear it is quite a site! If you want a back seat driver, let me know.

Aris,

Do you do aerial photo and video? I would appreciate any advice on the subject, as I know nothing about it and we are going to do it as soon as the weather breaks. Thanks.

No, this will be the first time i've tried to do some major photography from the air. I do know that the main objectives will be to get the airplane out of the shot (which is hard enough) and get the sun behind you to reduce glare from the glass.

It seems a few of you will just be doing sight-seeing journeys over Burning Man. I recommend looking at the 'rules' before going then, they have established procedures for tour circles over the field. Pretty good planning from what I can see...

The first pdf on this page is a good diagram of the pattern. No flight directly over the city unless you're above 8,000'. There's a lot of things going on, balloons, ultralights, kites and skydivers included.

Indeed, i will just be doing scenic flight. They don't sell day tickets and $300 seems a little steep for the day. I would love to walk around in there though, but a week might be a little long.

What camp is it, I'll make sure to check it out!

I do know people that have gone to Burning Man. I had planned to attend the summer of 2007. I was told not to entertain the thought of taking children. Stay hydrated or you will die...and wear a Boa in your Tukus...you will fit in just fine.
