--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
All,
Please plan on being at the tent and table at least 10 minutes before your time. My cell phone is 706 317 three two two seven.
Thanks, Doug

RELLIHAN NOTE: The Type Club Tent is located on the East end of the display/vendor ramp, almost right at the exit to the flight line. It is set back a bit from the line, so it is easy to miss. It should be shown on the site map you receive with your tickets, in the Program.

I'll take the afternoon of the 20th. I'll be done looking by then and leave the next AM.

Put me down for what ever days are needed (up to four) Parking shouldnt be an issue as I fly in each day but the pass would be nice.

Doug:

Put me down for 2 hours on Wed or Thursday of SNF. We'll be sharing time between SNF and the Mouse that week, so see you there.

I thought I would give this thread its 14th reply after 201 looks. This will get the message back on the front page.

If more people will sit in the booth, then we will only need one hour at a time per person for the event.

I think Doug Muse should sweeten the deal. Free entry into S'nF would be nice.

Look at the minutes of the Board meetings to see where dues are going. Entry to S'nF for working the tent looks appropriate to me!

Brad and Cloyd.. any ideas? What about a special t-shirt or cap for those volunteers?

On another thought, all BACers should have a gathering one night when most members are present.

Where are most staying? Winter Haven side or Tampa side? Lots of good places to chow on both sides.

If you only want to work 1 hour I can still put you down.

Doug

Doug, do you still have the info I sent about free show passes for tent volunteers, based on a minimum number of hours volunteered? But we are probably getting close to missing the time window for pass registrations, if we haven't already. I still have that letter sent by the SNF people.

It would be nice to hear from more folks who would like to put something into the Club, as opposed to just trying to get more and more out of it. Seems to me that we are giving pretty good value as it is. (Sorry; just couldn't resist!).

I don't think we can (or should) try to bribe folks into contributing. Either they will or they won't. If they do, it will be because they have something to offer fellow members, knowing that they will be appreciated for their efforts; and as a result it makes them feel good for having added their time to the common cause. Having said that, if BAC wishes to surprise Tent participants with some remembrance after the fact, so much the better.

Good points Mike. I do have the volunteer stuff but since most wanted to do under 4 hours a day we can't justify free passes with Sun-n-Fun. I was hoping everyone would be willing to give a hour or two while at the show to meet others and give back to the club.

Let's go everyone.. we need to fill more time slots.

Doug

I thought I would give this thread its 17th reply after 294 looks. This will get the message back on the front page. AGAIN! (As no new volunteers have been listed - by my count).

We need more people who will sit in the booth. More people equals less individual work.

Remember my good friends... this is a club of people who have a similar interest (Beeches). IT IS NOT A RELIGION.

Pushing the organizers and profiteers of Sun'nFun to give us free entry is NOT blasphemy. It is only a reasonable request. The pressures against GA are enormous. More volunteers means a more robust future.

I have volunteered for 4 hours long before this thread so there will be no need to shoot this messenger.

I still think... Free entry into S'nF would be nice and it still is possible. It is OK to ask the Membership Committee, (who will get all the accolades for our efforts), to ask the S'nF people if free entry is possible and expect them to push for it.

Look at the minutes of the Board meetings to see where dues are going. Entry to S'nF for working the tent STILL looks appropriate to me!

Tom, I already plan to pursue free day passes for tent volunteers, from the SNF organizers. That's their standard offer to all their volunteers, but it is usually predicated on 4 hours on a given day, or 32 hours in a 7-day week. I am going to go with whoever has made the list by tomorrow morning, before the time runs out for me to get the letter sent in. I don't yet know whether they will concur, but they might.

If the BAC Board chooses to do anything, that's their call. But in my opinion it should be post-event recognition, not pre-event enticement. I am tempted to elaborate on 'why', but I'll leave it alone as unsuitable for a BAC forum.

My name is Barry and I am a member from Western Canada. My wife and I will be in Ft Lauderdale on the 17th of April, and would like to take in F/S and meet some of you guys. I was just looking at Map Quest and it looks like it is about 3 or 4 hours each way to Lakeland. Does anyone from that area know if that is pretty close, or is there quicker way.

Barry, I hope that one of our Florida members responds to you soon. I think that your estimate is probably pretty close; but one of our South Florida members may have some thoughts on the best route to take. I hope we see you there!

ALL SNF TABLE VOLUNTEERS WHO SIGNED UP AS OF MID-MARCH:

I have received tentative confirmation that the following SNF passes will be available to me on either 4/16 or 4/17 (I hope that it is the 16th), at Window 20 (main show entrance). The passes may also include closer preferred parking in the volunteer parking area. I must emphasize that this will be a 'first' for me (picking up free volunteer passes), and I'm not certain how it will work out. I will post an update on the BAC site, in this Forum Topic, on the evening of 4/16 and 4/17.

My preference will be to issue passes at the Camping Entrance on Drane Field Road. I am not sure whether they will let me leave them for pick-up there. If they do not, you will have to call my cell, and I will need to come out from the show and give you your passes. I cannot get them ahead of time (before the 16th or 17th). If I have to give them to you during a show day, you will have the option of leaving your vehicle parked at the camping entrance, then ride in (and back out) with me. If I get them on the 16th, and you arrive on the 16th or earlier, you can meet me somewhere outside the show and get your tickets. My lodging plan is in this Forum.

Please note that you may not be scheduled in the tent for every one of these days shown; your schedule is in this Forum Topic. I took the liberty of implying 32 hours of volunteer time for each person, in the application. There is also a faint possibility that the passes may be for the entire week, since four days of admission is usually the same price. Guess we'll see. My personal thanks, and from Doug as well, to those of you who stepped forward to help out in the tent. It is light duty, and it will be 'nice' to actually have the table manned much of the time (as do most of the other Type Clubs).

Please note that there will be sufficient cable length at the tree for you to connect any chair you may wish to bring in. The cable is there not for anti-theft purposes, but to keep chairs, etc. from being blown out on the ramp in the event of bad weather. I have never had anything bothered in my pile of stuff 'at the tree'. Others are free to use the chairs when they are unoccupied, and that typically happens throughout the day. But folks will offer to vacate when you show up.

If a BAC banner (or two) shows up, we will stake it out. That assumes that the banner-toter brings some screw-in anchors, bungees, a push-in post higher than the banner, etc. One end can fasten to the tree.

I used mapquest last year at S/F outa Tampa & it was excellent in regards to directions. However, upon finding my way to the hotel, ended up smack dab in the middle of typical big city rush hour traffic that was often stop & go. Times to avoid are ~ 9 to 5ers going back & forth to work.

If a smoker, watch your buts; Florida crowd are sensitive to where & how they are put out. No such thing as flicking one out whilst driving..specially at night. Huge fines & could even end up in jail for that. Also, I think folks can carry guns legally, but not sure. Might be careful around water too. I had the bright idea of perhaps going for a dip in some lake while I was there... It was my first time

~20 cars were torched last year in the parking area due to a fire that started from a low car, simply parked with a hot cat, combined with dry grass.

T was there though...

Met a Texan & his fam - we were having a wonderful time taking in the air show! All of a sudden he asked me if I had a job to go back to in Canada...seemed a bit concerned that I might not be headed back...
