Sorry for the short notice .BAC has been invited to join the EAA 186 Chapter for their morning monthly membership meeting at the Clubhouse /Hangar West ramp (HEF) . A few of us our members of the Chapter. They will provide tie downs ,coffee ,donuts and great camaraderie . Anyway you can arrive is fine. Hopefully we will be able to fire up the grill for some Hot dogs and refreshments afterwards . Maybe a stroll through the Freedom Museum across the field on the east terminal later.

The speaker is Rear Admiral Shumaker . He will speaking on “Reflections on Homebuilding (and other war stories)”.
Rear Admiral Shumaker graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1956 and subsequently earned two masters degrees and a doctorate. After flight training, he flew the F-8 Crusader, but was unfortunately shot down on a mission over North Vietnam in February 1965. He was held as a POW in Hanoi for eight years. Commander Shumaker originated the name “Hanoi Hilton” for the prison. The famous name was the ultimate in satire since the prisoners were tortured, starved and insulted rather than treated with hospitality. He is held in high regard by his fellow POW’s for his resistance, leadership and communication skills during imprisonment.

He went on to serve as a major project manager for precision guided munitions, as superintendent of the Naval Postgraduate School, and as a research coordinator at the Pentagon. His civilian career included jobs at George Washington University and the University of North Dakota.
His passion for aviation resulted in a homebuilt airplane which he and his wife have flown to such faraway places as Alaska. From 1998 to 1999 he served as president of EAA Chapter 186.
Rear Admiral Shumaker continues to inspire many with his message of courage, perseverance and determination. His military decorations include the Distinguished Service Medal, two Silver Stars, four Legions of Merit, the Distinguished Flying Cross, a Bronze Star, and two Purple Hearts. In 2011, he was presented with the Distinguished Graduate Award from the U. S. Naval Academy

Here are a couple links .Hope some of you can make it . Maybe we can take a walk through the Freedom Museum on the East Side .

I'm planning to make this one. Wouldn't miss this for the world. Folks, if you ever get the chance, this is a very active EAA Chapter. Just tell Ground you want to park at the EAA Chapterhouse on the west ramp (at the base of the control tower).
